17/12/2004 10:00 | deehill How dare you suggest that I'm idle! I play golf twice a week, clean the pool and pick oranges off the trees. Seriously, one of the reasons I came out here was that I found I was doing all my investment "work" on the internet and concluded that I might as well do it in the sun than in cold and damp England. I put in a couple of hours a day and the rest of the day's my own. Anyone else doing what deehill and I are doing? I'll have a look at Connaught. Thanks for the info. | tinker
16/12/2004 10:33 | Are any of you Gentlemen following the recent in dication that there may be a predator for CONNAUGHT. The interesting thing about this one is they they consistently work on lower margins than MEARS. I believe as much as 25% lower in some cases. Although there have been whisperings of possible 'black holes' in the accounts, this could be an interesting one. | deehill
14/12/2004 12:02 | Would be interesting to know how many expatriates ARE ex pats on the strength of Mears and a few other choice stocks. As I'm sure Tinker will testify 'Its all much better than working' Which brings up an interesting point. No longer do Brits with sufficient capital seem to want to 'investigate' things being, seemingly, content to do as I and just watch the world line up at the bar.Maybe there is no longer the truly 'affluent from birth'sector and those, like Tinker and I,who do retire have worked damned hard and feel we have a right to be bloody idle. | deehill
13/12/2004 15:59 | deehill Actually, I made my escape from England two years ago to enjoy a quieter life in Spain. Here they've never heard of political correctness. For example, last week they passed a law banning excessive noise . . . and excluded fireworks! Although we were nearly washed away by torrential rain last week, that's the first we've had since May and from my window I've a choice of views - sea or golf course. Oh well, back to the laptop. Feliz Navidad y Prospero Año Nuevo . . . and long may Mears flourish. | tinker
13/12/2004 12:03 | Ah. It takes someone immured to the harsh reality of life in England to think of such nasties as Divorce......but, maybe you are right!!!! Lying on the beach(AND ALREADY DIVORCED,BEFORE PURCHASING MEARS)one can think of the good things etc, etc. Merry Xmas to all, even the ex, now happily living the life of Reilly in Asheville North Carolina. It was a NICE town, until!!!! | deehill
10/12/2004 16:30 | Either a happy christmas or a painful divorce, but since he's still holding nearly 4million shares, it's no wonder there's nary a tremor. Lucky guy. | tinker
10/12/2004 12:07 | One of the Directors sells 255000 and there's nary a tremor. I think this director has sold stock before but, seemingly, few of the others feel the need to fund Xmas. Maybe they are all thinking of the wonderful holiday times which cannot be that far away when they will all be VERY RICH MEN. | deehill
01/12/2004 12:41 | Popout. The other two are teetering on being replaced (as and when I find alternates).Whilst they have provided ME with excellent profits I would not, now, recommend them as having the potential that I sought when I first put money into them. They aint going to fall, I hope, but neither are they going to motor.WHEREAS Mr Holt and his merry band have a very long way to go yet. At this time, anyone bailing out of this stock needs to be certified. Incidentally, I dont fully understand the thread posted but ANYONE who fails to recognize the potential of Mears - when its all there in black and white to see, is undeniably certifiable. Now. What all you other successful Investors should do is suggest the replacement to go into my GoGo portfolio. I have had remarkable TRADING success in ZIM - two good trades for a 24% profit over about six weeks- BUT what I really need is summat I can put money in and sit back on the beach and not worry about. All this jazzing about and the hurly burly of trading is not as good as boozing on the beach. One thing I will say. Whilst I have had some small qualms about the other two stocks at times I have NEVER worried about Mears. | deehill
30/11/2004 08:37 | I thought there would be more people buying into MER today - I guess the late announcement yesterday has been missed by many - However, still lots of time today for Investors to catch up on the news - Maybe it would have been a larger impact if the two contracts had been announced on seperate days. Still you can't grumble with the way Bob keeps coming up with the goods. Cheers - b - | bwgof
29/11/2004 22:09 | Deehill, I would be interested to know what your other two stocks are? Baz | popout

29/11/2004 12:14 | Sure, will do. What did you say??? | tinker
26/11/2004 12:08 | Tinker, I think I have upset Robbie, he has filtered me from his banter thread, please apologise on my behalf as it was only a gentle tease! :o) | ![]() cambium
26/11/2004 10:13 | Well done Cambium et al. It's broken 200. Can it stay there? I've been telling Robbie Burns about this stock for months, not to ramp it but to point out what a superb company this is and why he shouldn't ignore good AIM stocks. This thread title is dead right. This company could come straight out of the Zulu Principle. | tinker

26/11/2004 09:41 | Pushed the £2 finally, someone has shoved a rocket up somewhere! Cheers Tinker, I bought at 60p and am well pleased with them | ![]() cambium
26/11/2004 09:37 | Bl--dy hell, got that wrong £2.04 at 0918 this morning ! Christmas has come early. can it last ? BF2 | ![]() blindfaith2
25/11/2004 17:04 | This is a nice steady little earner. I invested at 61p in Feb 01. With a subsequent trend line running at just over 30% p.a. this has been one of my better selections. Edit; This weeks Investors Chronicle has Mears on their cover story list of "10 AIM super stocks" | ![]() mdrans1
25/11/2004 09:29 | Not much action on this thread for such a rising stock but it now looks as if £2 is a reality and will be attained before Christmas. I got in at £1.23 which looks poor compared with Tinker but still a grand reward in today's market. BF2 | ![]() blindfaith2
01/11/2004 09:41 | Cambium Looks like you're getting lonely on this thread so I'll join you. Bought at 100p in April 2003 for my SIPP so well pleased with a 90+% gain and still reckon this is an underrated stock. Wish they would go for a full listing. | tinker |
