The upshot of all the involvement is that in reality UK- born citizens [ ok , subjects ] have become second class citizens in their own country !!!
P.S. l am a UK - born citizen/subject .Regards , Ramon .

seems TESCO is outperformed by Morrisons, sainsbury and Ocado which makes almost no profit.

I havent shopped in Tescos for ages now until recently. Used to use it a fair amount.

Lidl and Aldi have opened nearby, so use them and local shops. Always spend more than need to in Lidl, buying things I dont really need ie Tagine !!!

Went to tesco and did find it more expensive than had been getting used to. Quality was fine but dont enjoy the massive supermarkets anymore. Must be getting old.

I have held in the past - bought at 145ish and sold at 180ish, but I dont hold anymore. Not looking to buy anytime soon, but do keep an eye on the price. Much better potential elsewhere ie added aviva last week before results.

Good idea bringing customer toilets with baby changing facilities...it will become a public loo!!!...that will require maintenance & cleaning on a full time basis...all these expenses are yet to filter through...honey moon period will come to an end sooner or later ...

It seems to me, more and more Aldi and Lidl are taking on the likes of Tesco's offering more to their customers.

If Lidl's does reach the 1,500 stores it is aiming for would give it in the region of 9% Market share.

With Aldi looking to do the same, the German combined market share is likely to increase by around 10%, which means the big 4 (Tesco, Sainsbury, Aldi and Morrison) losing 10% market share.

Moody's vice president and senior analyst, said: "We expect Aldi and Lidl's combined share of the UK market to reach 15% by 2020.

"Although the discounters' sales densities have caught up with the big four retailers, Aldi and Lidl could continue to gain around 1% market share every year supported by their store expansion plans at a time where the Big Four selectively close unprofitable stores in order to save costs."

One of our local towns has a Lidl pretty well as you describe although no toilet facilities, It has the benefit of no competition other than the Co-op who frankly are no competition at all.

Tesco and Asda have both in the past tried to set up there but even though they managed to get planning permission have both been blocked by the Co-op repeatedly challenging the permissions in court on planning technicalities.

The problem Lidl has is that they don't sell mainstream brands with just a few exceptions, those that they do sell don't compete on price with the big four.

I note my local Tesco is now offering more non-food higher margin products.

Lidl confirms it is still bringing a ‘multi-million pound investment’ to Boston... right next to Tesco:

The plans will include ‘state-of-the-art facilities’ including a dedicated in-store bakery, longer-style tills with dual packing facilities, customer toilets with baby changing facilities and ‘ample’ parking for both cars and bicycles.

The planned store in Boston will add to Lidl’s existing store portfolio of 630, and bosses say it ‘will form part of the company’s growth plans which hope to see this increase to 1,500 stores in the future’.

Dear Tesco's.

Thank you very much!

I won't buy your shares though, trading costs buying/selling mean it's a waste of time, effort and money.

If they keep on making £600mln profit then at least that is better than ARM Holding profits I think!...& ARM is worth £24bln!!!....ok I know different sectors but what is hot today can decay in few years time due to competition etc etc...don't M&S own freehold properties?..

vaneric - M&S is a business that has stagnated and going nowhere and has no growth over the past nearly 25 years and seems to me where Tesco's is heading.

I like the idea that a company that makes £600million profit is a failing business.

It seems to me Tesco is going the same way as M&S.

Up until the early 1990's M&S stood for well cut clothing for the middle classes. Then all of a sudden they decided to go into Fashion and do what the other clothing retailers were doing and sadly the rest is history.

M&S were the first retailer to make £1bln profit, into days money nearly £5bln, sadly however they are barely able to make £600mln in profit and each year their clothing sales decline...the simple reason is because they lost their way and forgot who their bread and butter customers are.

But don't Tesco import most of their wine in big, very big, plastic bags, then bottle it here? Very profitable I expect, but hardly the stuff of great wine i wouldn't have tought.

Got to be some rocket science there!!...this is where Aldi & Lidl don't believe in Masterclasses...

The problem I see for Tesco's, what does it stand for these days....and what is its customer base...and who do they cater for...

Tesco opens finest pop-up wine bar in Soho:

Tesco has opened a finest pop-up wine bar in London's Soho this month.

A selection of discovery wine flights will be on offer to help visitors discover varieties they might not know. Members of the Tesco wine team and other experts will be on hand to advise visitors and answer any questions for the duration of the pop-up.

For those wanting a more in-depth encounter with the wines, two 30 minute Masterclasses take place daily in the Tasting Room, taking guests through four specially selected finest wines.
