Home ownership in England has fallen to its lowest level for 30 years, while the number of people privately renting is now higher than in the early 1960s, according to official figures.

Government data reveals that the private rented sector has doubled in size since 2004, with almost half of all people in England aged 25 to 34 paying a private landlord for their accommodation.

Ministers recently admitted England’s housing market was “broken”, with home ownership a distant dream for millions.

9:30am GBP Services PMI

This evening a number of Federal Bank voting members including 'granny' give their take on the likely date of the next US interest rate rise. This may explain the sell off in the US last night, which followed on a sell off of US Treasury Bonds and a collapse in commodity prices.

If this was the unquestioned view of leading 'leave' campaigners last year, what has changed?

Liam Fox
During his failed bid to become Tory leader in July, Fox said he would seek an agreement where EU citizens living in the UK would be granted “full rights to remain”

Boris Johnson
In the run-up to the referendum Johnson told the Guardian that EU citizens would be allowed to stay if Britain voted to leave, saying everyone who was already in the UK would have the right to remain.

Andrea Leadsom
In her failed bid to become Tory leader, Andrea Leadsom insisted that EU nationals in Britain should not be “bargaining chips” in the Brexit process.

EU citizens already lawfully resident in the United Kingdom must retain their right of residence - MG #Gove2016

Peter Bone
In the referendum campaign, Peter Bone, the Tory MP and co-founder of leave campaign group Grassroots Out, told the PoliticsHome website: “Clearly any EU citizen that is legally here if we come out of the EU would absolutely have the right to remain here. Any other suggestion is just absurd.

“It is a scare story, full stop. It just shows how desperate the government and the remain campaign are.”

Peter Lilley
A letter to the Daily Telegraph in July signed by leading leave campaigners Daniel Hannan MEP, Ukip’s MP Douglas Carswell, and former Tory cabinet minister Lilley urged all politicians to give an unequivocal commitment to protect the status of EU nationals. It said:

We would urge the government, opposition parties and every candidate standing to be the next Conservative party leader – and hence prime minister – to make an unequivocal statement that EU migrants currently living in the UK are welcome here, and that changes would apply only to new migrants. A clear commitment to protect the status of EU migrants was made by the official Vote Leave campaign – and it must be honoured.

I've just been watching a live press conference by Sessions, at the DoJ. He has not resigned, but he is going to recuse himself from the Trump campaign investigations. Q and A underway. This will probably relieve the pressure and bat away the calls for his resignation, IMO; in the S/T anyway.

I've skipped a load of posts, so this has probably been mentioned.

The excellent Lord Tebbit:

Lord Tebbit Conservative

That is exactly what the Prime Minister has said: we will look for an equitable solution. That means, in my view, that the rights of those who are currently resident here who, although they are not British subjects, are citizens of the EU, should be kept. But, of course, so should the rights of British citizens living within the EU. That is not a difficult matter. Why is everybody here today so excited about an amendment that looks after foreigners and not the British?

Even David Cameron has abandoned the right wing press.

Careful reading of this piece may explain why.

Lord Neuberger is right. We have to take on the mob
