26/4/2016 11:00 | Encore was even better than that, trading at cash level with a buyback in place if it dropped below cash level. Meant that you could hold an oversized position. And the explo upside on Catcher really was for free because they were carried on the first couple of wells. I don't expect Ophir to deliver the same magnitude of returns as Encore but it does show that thinking much longer term than the average market participant in conservatively managed E&P can deliver good results. | dangersimpson2
26/4/2016 10:42 | Looks like the match has been lit at last , lets get this donkey moving up nicely! | jotoha2
25/4/2016 22:59 | Hi Ed I remember you from your Dana investment , I also held , swapped out for Soco, my intent in this sector is to get exposure to major upside but with a good degree of downside protection, both Ophir and Chariot fit the brief, but the latter is higher risk/reward so suits me in that context. If anyone is at the Ophir AGM give Mr cooper a hard time, his bonus scheme ..sheesh | rhomboid
25/4/2016 22:38 | Hi Rhomboid Yes, I've done ok too - before this oil price drop. Been lucky on takeovers, Venture Production, Dana, Encore, Nautical were good for me. I remember when Encore was valued at its cash level, with exploration targets for free ... then it discovered light oil at Catcher. I had a good size holding. Something similar again would do me nicely. Missed out on Cairn at Senegal. :-( My current Ophir holding was fairly recently acquired. Presently showing a small paper profit. Wondering if some good news might be announced with the agm statement? Would need to hold till 10 May. ATB | ed 123
25/4/2016 20:09 | Chariot? Wouldn't touch it with s barge pole. | daybreakers
25/4/2016 19:41 | Hi Rhomboid. Thanks for sharing that. I am holding Ophir atm, but am not enamoured. Re: Chariot (and many other oil stocks), I've not been following as closely as in the past, since I decided to protect myself by taking some losses (sic) when the oil price was falling. My problem with the oil and gas sector generally is that it is inherently high risk (commodity prices, dollar exchange, possible changes to taxation, exploration and appraisal risk). When the directors are (too?) heavily incentivised on top of that, they can be inclined to roll the dice, rather than move steadily and sensibly. The risk level then becomes excessive for my taste; the outcome can be very painful for shareholders. That's not what I want. Will look at Chariot when I get a moment (my own risk, if I go for it, of course). Good luck. | ed 123
25/4/2016 09:21 | Rhomboid Agree. Will you be asking/saying anything at the agm? | ed 123
24/4/2016 14:00 | .OPHR appear to one of the safer mid cap oilers in which to enjoy the POO recovery. | sleveen
23/4/2016 22:59 | What a weird rns holding announcement - 'blackrock has gone below 5%' what's all that statement about | spacedust
23/4/2016 18:40 | I've got a very small holding of Ophir acquired from their takeover of Dominion but haven't done anything in the way of adding to it. I've just started researching and like some of what I see but can't believe the remuneration generosity for what is a shocking destruction of shareholder value, albeit mostly due to the commodity price implosion. I've also watched Nick Cooper present and I'm still no nearer to seeing why he is so lavishly rewarded. They paid about as much to NBS for director bonus scheme advice as I'd want to pay in base salary to a CEO! Anyone else unhappy...or able to put a case for the defence?! | rhomboid
22/4/2016 10:58 | {quietly gloating about timing of share purchase} | zcaprd7
21/4/2016 11:22 | Sold my shell holding for a small gain and stuck it here... | zcaprd7
21/4/2016 08:47 | PMO up nearly 200% and TLW up 100% since their lows this year , OPHR will have it's time soon!! | jotoha2
21/4/2016 08:41 | Black rock reducing could be a good buy over next few weeks | nw99
20/4/2016 16:30 | It looks like a base is forming. Quite a bit of volume yesterday. I'm tempted, just worried I'll be "topping up" till 50p odd... Blackrock reduced again as well. | zcaprd7
19/4/2016 15:57 | Imo, Ophir doesn't have the financial strength to take over Premier Oil. Also, Ophir needs all its cash for its own developments. I'd prefer Ophir to sell itself. Unlikely to happen, though, for two reasons. (1) Director self-interest. (2) Majors are cutting back on cap ex. and have their own projects to fund. Anyone going to the AGM? | ed 123
19/4/2016 14:58 | the best bet for this lot is to make another bid for Premier Oil, at a price they will accept. | deanroberthunt
18/4/2016 18:03 | Pineapple you're not the only fella. Having originally bought at 1.68 I then added at 1.05p I was thinking of getting in at 80p abd adding thank goodness I didn't. If this hits 30p then that's when I'll next add. I'd be happy just to break even on this junk | spacedust
16/4/2016 12:21 | You only need to look at the chart to see the value destruction here near 90% fall ,and the management are supposed to be good.....lol Its still got a m/cap of over 500m and i would not be surprised to see this trading in the 50,s once the lows are taken out Its managed no rallies at all during this oil price hike and if and when oil falls this will be going with it. Its a dog full stop. I see virtually no chance of this trading at £3 over the next 5yrs unless it makes a huge discovery. (assuming oil and gas is staying low for a looooong time as suspect) .Its assetts are average at best.... I should not have bought them back after i sold at £1.68. A very poor trade indeed as i paid £1.08 on the return . But thats my fault. imho | pineapple1 |
