DEUTSCHE BANK RAISES OPHIR ENERGY PRICE TARGET TO 95 (90) PENCE – ‘BUY’

They could use a good punt right now.

Bit disappointed with today? Every other oiler is going crazy, and this is struggling?

One interesting point from conf call.

SailingStone selling through internal reasons - not their support of OPHR.

“The value chain, and our understanding of costs along this value chain, are sufficiently mature that we estimate that Fortuna is the lowest cost greenfield LNG project in the market today. As such the Fortuna Project continues to offer compelling returns despite the low commodity price environment,” the company said on Thursday.

I'm thinking very similar here.

OPHR/BLVN/SIA/SQZ/GENL/RKH

Holding cash rich, asset rich O&G assets with room to grow then occasionally shorting oil on the peaks - with the contango it's working ok.

I think that's a pretty reasonable assessment log.

Either oil/gas/lng price will recover in the next year or two and OPHR will do well or it will continue it's slow decline. It seems like a great well run company but you can't avoid the fact that they need a big uptick in asset prices for shareholders to do well here.

It remains a good place to be to ride an asset price recovery in my view. Who knows how long that might take though or even if it will happen in time!

Confirmation that they are working with Exxon is great news , you never know where this will lead to !

Exactly as expected. No surprises that I could see.

Cash burn as expected, earnings as expected, nothing new at all.

As you say cumnor will survive this crisis in O&G.

The Fortuna project with Ophir has made real progress in recent months. Golar is
feeling much more positive about this project reaching FID before year end.

Don't really know what this means but we'll find out more tomorrow no doubt.

Fair enough. Tomorrow will be interesting for sure.

The board have got a helluva job to convince shareholders that they are on track given the share price movement and the likes of SailingStone dumping stock so the update more important than usual I suspect.

I'm in no way wedded to this but the value looks incredible here - time will tell.

Apologies, Nigelpm. Intended as a light hearted comment. :-)

I can't add very much. Only my view of course, but the update was more important for not mentioning the African gas projects. Bualuang is approaching end of production (2 years left?). Kerenden finally into production (far later than Salamander were planning - due to PLN?) but output rising only to 20MMscfd. At Kerenden they have the resource to produce at a much higher rate but needs a buyer and development - a future project.

Had I been writing yesterday's rns, I would have added something about the other producing assets, even just confirmation that all's well and producing to expectations. Why not do it? Markets don't like doubt.

The big issue with Ophir, though, is the lack of progress with developing/partnering of the African gas. I know Ophir quote figures to say that Fortuna can be profitably developed but, until they get a partner willing to stump up, the market will doubt them. The withdrawal of Schlumberger was a big negative.

As a general comment, we all read the same market news and follow the same figures, but it can be the pyschology of investing that determines how we investors fare. The 'denial' post was not intended to be hurtful but, having read recent posts, it honestly did strike me that you may be too wedded to Ophir.

I do hope Ophir goes well for you. Tomorrow you may be rejoicing with a new farmout? However, you'll hardly need me to add that Oil and Gas companies frequently damage the wealth of their investors.

Good luck. :-)

Oh dear Ed. Had you done as a value adding poster. Would be helpful if you added value by discussing the company not playing the man.

Nigelpm.

Have you modelled yourself on our friend over on the Soco board?

Denial ... a psychological defense mechanism in which confrontation with a personal problem or with reality is avoided by denying the existence of the problem or reality ...

Remember there could be 1m and one reasons for schlumberger pulling out - could be absolutely nothing to do with the prospect but that they had another project with a greater assessed NPV that they wanted to take on.

How do you know they pulled out because of operational reasons pineapple?

misunderstood by the market is the point they are making which I think judging by the Market value is obvious.

At the time the jilted explorer’s share price tumbled to all-time lows of 65.15p but Barclays Capital has said its “misunderstood” project stands to benefit from a recovery in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) market.

I,m sure Schlumberger understand the dynamics and future dynamics better than a Barcap analyst. Thats why they pulled out...
When these sort of articles appear they are often because someone has a large equity block to shift and they need someone to sell to on any rise it may generate...
imho
