20/1/2017 07:42 | I'd be okay with that but there's too much carbon in there for some. Character group and Bon Marche both report weakening trends into December. | aleman
19/1/2017 22:26 | Why not just run the car on Natural gas? A lot safer than hydrogen. DF | deanforester
19/1/2017 19:03 | I think the market is rolling over, HMSO and RMG both took a hit today. Aleman raised a good point re Hydrogen for fueling cars. I am wondering if he saw the article in the New Scientist a few weeks back on the pyrolysis of Methane. Basically bubble Methane through Tin held at 1000-1200C and you get Hydrogen and soot, but very little else. What you do with the soot is a mute point, send it down coal mines I guess. :) The thermodynamics of this are interesting, it is an endothermic process of course, so heat does have to be supplied but not much. Entropy wise you are converting 1 mole of gas into 2 moles of gas, plus soot, so the process will work better at higher temperatures and lower pressures, methinks. PS Diesel particulates contain far nastier than Benzene and Naptha. From memory some of the worst are mono nitrated anthrazene derivatives, anyway they are big with a nitro group on. | freddie ferret
19/1/2017 18:25 | Some catching up to do on posts here, commiserations Aleman, not in SIV anymore, not tempted to average down back in at present. -0.37% [FTSE250 -0.49%] Worst value fallers : CLIG -2.6%, BMS -5.4%, MCL -5%, PHTM -1.9%. Highest value risers : BEZ +2.4%, NXG +2.7%, HSD +1.9%. Wondering if the rising default rates on unsecured loans are affecting the MCL share price Fairly uneventful journey to West Midlands and back in gloomy misty conditions, Max temp 8C. Mway network very busy but no hold ups. | blueliner
19/1/2017 17:04 | -1.7% for me. 38% fall at SIV did me in. Mostly blue otherwise. Grey again but not as murky. Lack of wind meant the 7.7C felt mild. We need some sun. My tomatoes look unhappy and the flowers shoots outside have paused. I'll give credit to the Met Office - it was an accurate forecast for this week ... just not one I wanted! | aleman
19/1/2017 16:57 | Besides the Costas and Balearics, there's been more snow in Morocco and Algeria, too. If it gets any icier, one will be able to walk from Greenland to Iceland. There is 90% ice over half the distance, with two months to go to the peak of freeze-up. That's odd considering how hot it is supposed to have been in the Arctic this year. | aleman
19/1/2017 16:55 | SIPP -0.90% PETS, SSE & BMS and the pot -0.36% RDSB, AMD & LLOY - OUCH! Recommend both Skinny, but don't miss Death in Paradise! We also have Unforgotten to record on the other side and Spy in the Wild was pretty good last week. Looking forward to getting that log burner going. A high of only 3.3°C yesterday and a low last night of -2°C and that's on the shed which is sheltered! | mrphil
19/1/2017 16:52 | My SIPP finished down 0.49%. Some TV catch up tonight Silent Witness and Endeavour. | skinny
19/1/2017 16:43 | It does suggest PETS have got it right by putting more effort into those areas imho. Mind you, I would have been happier had they not fallen so much today, especially as I topped up recently! | mrphil
19/1/2017 16:12 | MrP - PETS LfL merchandise slowed to stagnation. It was grooming and vet services that produced the overall growth - and that came in lower than expected for the quarter. Mortgage rates have eased a bit in the US so that's a bit of good news. Swap rates suggest that there won't much more in the way of falls for the moment, though, and many UK lenders haven't even raised yet. | aleman
19/1/2017 15:58 | Awful for the poor people stuck inside | mrphil
19/1/2017 15:53 | Aleman, PETS overall revenue for the quarter was up by 4.4% and they reckon they are on target to meet expectations for the full year? | mrphil
19/1/2017 15:02 | Aleman Yes consumers don't have a lot of spare cash, I don't think retailers can pass on inflationary costs either, non essential goods are still suffering deflation. UK heading for a recession. | wipo1
19/1/2017 14:37 | I just spotted Pets At Home shares are down 10% on a weaker Christmas quarter so not all good today. | aleman
19/1/2017 13:53 | To add to rising default rates on unsecured consumer credit, we have the first sign of rising mortgage defaults in the US. | aleman
19/1/2017 13:44 | USD Building Permits 1.21M 1.22M 1.20M USD Philly Fed Manufacturing Index 23.6 16.3 21.5 USD Unemployment Claims 234K 252K 247K USD Housing Starts 1.23M 1.19M 1.09M | skinny
19/1/2017 13:06 | "Commenting on current trading and outlook, Royal Mail said it was seeing the impact of overall business uncertainty in the UK on letter volumes." There was no elaboration on this. | aleman
19/1/2017 12:32 | Do we still do hire purchase in the UK? RentaCenter (2600 stores) issues profit warning after tougher Q4. | aleman
19/1/2017 12:09 | Blimey SIV is under the cosh! Thanks for the tickers Aleman. | skinny
19/1/2017 12:00 | Thanks Aleman, they both look interesting. I would favour SCH out of the two of them and might be tempted. | mrphil
19/1/2017 11:40 | You guys might want to look at TAP and SCH. I hold neither. | aleman |
