Alot of press about Palm Oil demand over the next few years.

Lex: Palm oil
Published: October 6 2005 14:04 | Last updated: October 6 2005 14:04

Palm oil looks as sweet as sugar. The humble vegetable oil, beloved of Asian cooks and ecologically-minded Europeans, is in big demand. Procter & Gamble plans to use more in its shampoos and detergents, to reduce reliance on pricier crude oil. Malaysia, striving to cut its diesel subsidy bill, yesterday announced plans to pump palm oil into cars.

This looks like a fundamental change: half of Europe's rapeseed oil production, for example, is now used for biofuel. That in turn drives prices higher, as sugar traders know. With half of Brazil driving around on ethanol, a sugar-derived fuel, the price of sugar is at a seven-year high.

There are several reasons why palm oil may follow suit. Growing demand is unlikely to be matched by production increases, at least in the near-term. Plantations require a long lead time, about three and a half years, and are fairly capital-intensive.
Financial times........

Item on BBC Today prog this morning about palm oil plantations destroying the rain ofrest in Sumatra and threatening extinction to Oran-utangs. Impact on MPE? Anyway, share price seems to be stabilising.

and here is the reason:-

kulim ltd sold a large chunk , and flemings picked them up , plus a few more!
at least they are in safe hands, mercantile trust is a steady long termer.
should keep it above £2 anyway.

Well, today MPE breached the £2 barrier for the first time, currently 202-210. This is despite some weakness in the palm oil price, caused by lower short term demand from the Indian subcontinent.

Good to see you popping up here as well. Thanks for your informed views, I'll get some of these for my SIPP before the world clocks the Biodiesel aspect which hasn't come out in the MPE analysis I've seen

Keen to buy in to MPE as I like the sound of the strategy. However, can anyone tell me:

- is palm oil a candidate for biodiesel?
- does MPE plan to diversify into a more biodiesel-friendly crop like Jatropha?
- how much damage was done to MPE's N Sumatran properties by the Tsunami?
- what's the level of local hostility from Aceh Liberation Front to MPE?

shares mag is the culprit.
its one of their plays of the week.
in partic they note the discount to nav, no debt, and good yield which should keep up with events.

See post 748 on the FMJ board where Arthurly eradicated a new trojan (name not given) with Titanium software. You might want to post there if you're having problems?

Same reason as many other small caps, good and bad falling with the tide.....

Not a good time to be long in the Uk small cap market....

OT Anyone had any problems with a new trojan virus called warspy/newgenlook?
