strange how there is mispricing in the wider equity market but some commodities are relative bargains now - unless I've missed something. Uranium should be north of $70/lb and still cheap then.

USA Update -

Full story @

Construction has officially begun on a new reactor at the Vogtle power plant in Georgia. It is the second AP1000 construction to start in America this week.

Some 5350 cubic metres of concrete were poured to form the basemat for the nuclear portion of Vogtle 3. It will support the reactor itself and buildings to shield it and house fuel handling facilities and auxiliary equipment.

First concrete at Vogtle 3 came just four days after the same milestone at VC Summer 2 - the first of two AP1000s being built by South Carolina Electric & Gas. Westinghouse CEO Danny Roderick said it had been "a week of momentous progress in bringing a new generation of safe, clean reliable nuclear energy to the USA."

Interesting read....general nuclear debate in Japan.

full story @

In Japan, two years after Fukushima nuclear accident, work resumes on new plant

OMA, Japan - At the remote northwestern tip of a snowy peninsula, beyond a small road of fishing shacks and empty one-story homes, 600 construction workers and engineers are building a brand-new nuclear plant for a country still recovering from the most severe atomic accident since Chernobyl.

The main reactor building is already at its full height, though draped in heavy fabric to protect it from the wind and freezing temperatures. A 500-foot crane swivels overhead. A completed power line stretches along a nearby ridge, where it might one day carry electricity down the peninsula and back toward the Japanese mainland - a place still fiercely divided over the long-term role of nuclear power.

A good summary piece from last year.

GCL also holds Cameco (8.3% of NAV 3rd largest holding) and Uranium Participation (7.6% of NAV 4th largest holding )

From UP website
Uranium Partipation is 100% Denison owned investment company.
Uranium Participation Corporation is an investment holding company which invests substantially all of its assets in uranium, either in the form of uranium oxide in concentrates ("U3O8") or uranium hexafluoride ("UF6"), with the primary investment objective of achieving appreciation in the value of its uranium holdings. The mission of the Corporation is to provide an investment alternative for investors interested in holding uranium. Denison Mines Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Denison Mines Corp., is the manager of Uranium Participation Corporation.

Fission Energy

A combined Fission/Denison, may just be enough to re-ignite Cameco's interest in the area, but again Rio T may be in play as Fission's land is an extension of Hathor lands.

Just how close are Hathor (aquired by Rio T after Cameco withdrew.) and Fission's interests, see below

Uranium One Enters into Definitive Agreement with ARMZ for Going Private Transaction for CDN$2.86 per Share in Cash
Board Unanimously Recommends Transaction

TORONTO, Jan. 14, 2013 /CNW/ - Uranium One Inc. ("Uranium One" or the "Company") today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement (the "Arrangement Agreement") with JSC Atomredmetzoloto and its affiliate, Effective Energy N.V., (collectively "ARMZ") under which the Company would be taken private pursuant to a plan of arrangement (the "Plan of Arrangement"). ARMZ and its affiliates currently own 51.4% of the Uranium One common shares ("Common Shares").

The cash consideration represents a 32% premium to the 20-day volume weighted average price of the Common Shares on the Toronto Stock Exchange for the period ending January 11, 2013. The transaction provides total consideration to minority shareholders of approximately CDN$1.3 billion and implies an equity value for Uranium One of approximately CDN$2.8 billion.

Many predictions of increased Uranium pricing and demand from late 2013 onwards.

Demand predicted to outstrip supply and the market has taken Germany as a negative only to realise Germany are importing electricity from French nuclear and so just shifting demand. Not as much a demand reduction as the market priced in.

The Japanese dumped uranium on the market during the shutdown after Fukishima so depressing the price only to look at a re-start of Nuclear and have to replenish what they dumped + some for the future.

The miners took supply off the market due to low price of the product because of the above and thereby restricted future supply.

The result could be a sizeable pop-up in the uranium price with increased demand and tight supply.

The uranium price is nothing in the total cost of running a plant so the price can rise considerably without a noticeable impact on electricity cost.

Also factor in the reduced supply due to warhead recycling winding down.

Biggest market is the US and they import 90%+ of the Uranium they need.

Look for some turbulence in GCL but ultimately higher share price over 12-24 months.
