Normal trading has resumed on this one it seems. Looks like we are back where we would have been had there been no SUN article...

We'll see over the next week or so. Like Hervey said, the weekend press may follow up on it. The dailies won't as they 'want to be first with the scoop' so they aren't going to just back up the Sun.

"....while DIMENSION DATA rose 1.75 to 49.5 after yesterday's report here that BT is set to bid."

Follow up today in the Sun. So they are sticking to their guns on this one. There is also a lot of talk in the papers about BT's desire to make oversea purchases to boost BT Global.

Yesterdays BT news...............

LONDON (AFX) - Sir Michael Rake, chairman designate of BT Group PLC, is
willing to look at the case for increasing gearing at the UK's leading telecoms
group to fund future acquisitions, says the Financial Times, citing an interview
with Rake.
The current chairman of accountancy group KPMG told the paper that he
predicted the company would make more acquisitions to cater for the telecom and
IT needs of multinational corporations.
He told the FT that higher borrowing would be appropriate if "that fits the
strategy of BT and fits the particular circumstances of the acquisition."

It's in the UK Sun. Whatever you think of it, I doubt they would be so bold if there was no evidence whatsoever and they seem pretty certain.

lol. Even if a bid doesn't materialise I fancy DDT to forge ahead anyway. Last set of results were posiitve and with the likes of Cisco posting strong results DDT are well placed.

"BT is preparing a takeover of South African technology firm DIMENSION DATA, Sun City has learned.

A possible 55p-a-share deal – valuing DiData at £848.1million – could even be announced as early as tomorrow."

------------------------------------

"IS" is the operative word here. Not rumoured. Also "tomorrow" is today. It may be the Sun, but to give them credit they do sometimes get the scoop before the others.

BT's new dimension

BT is preparing a takeover of South African technology firm DIMENSION DATA, Sun City has learned.

A possible 55p-a-share deal – valuing DiData at £848.1million – could even be announced as early as tomorrow.

BT's Global Services division, which helps business customers combine landline and data networks, has grown rapidly in recent years. But it trails rivals like IBM in advising companies on how to integrate IT networks – an area in which DiData specialises.

Shares of former FTSE-100 member DiData fell 0.25p to 47.75. BT declined to comment.
