14/7/2011 13:06 | Hi James, yes a nice quiet thread just the way I like it. Cupid was much the same until they issued results and a trading update. With regards to competetition, yes there's plenty of it but here's their mission statement: Corporate Mission "define, develop and deliver high-quality, innovative semiconductor solutions to our customers, enabling them to produce world-class products for global communications and data storage applications" "concentrate on sub-markets and applications that have significant expertise barriers to entry and are not well served by much larger competitors" "offer superior levels of technical support" -------------------- The operational gearing means any increases in revenue should see much greater increases in profit. | jakleeds
14/7/2011 06:21 | Hi Jak, Sees quiet here - only you posting! I've been out of Cupid for a week or so now, looking elsewhere. This stock has done badly the last week, is it just market trend? I looked at this analyst report for CML which predicted only slight increases in revenue, but significant increase in earnings. What do you make of it? Seems strange only a slight increase in revenue. Speaking as a person who knows little about trading and a fair bit about computers it seems this sector is going to boom over the next 5 years. Right now every PC has a mechanical HDD, but the benefits of SSD (flash) are tremendous and it won't be long in my view before most laptops and a good proportion of desktops use them. The deal with toshiba that you posted on is thus very promising, but old news right (last year). The real question is will Toshiba (and by connection CML) be able to lead in this market, there are a lot of big competitors. I have not been able to find much in terms of reviews of technology including CML chipsets vs. other manufacturers. Just a few thoughts for now. | james_leeds
12/7/2011 23:11 | CML Microsystems Acquires Leading-edge Vocoder Technology June 2011 CML Microsystems Plc (CML), a mixed-signal semiconductor company headquartered close to London, England, has acquired the exclusive rights to the RALCWI low bit-rate vocoder products from Spirit Corp (Spirit), a Moscow based software company. CML originally licensed RALCWI from Spirit a few years ago to run on its proprietary system on chip (SoC) DSP technology after playing a key role in its specification, and has continued to enhance the performance and feature-set of the product. RALCWI is a low bit rate vocoder technology that facilitates the transmission and reception of highly compressed voice over inherently noisy narrowband radio channels. In this area, RALCWI is positioned to address the high quantity/low cost, digital PMR/LMR markets. David Brooke, Head of Product Strategy, said, "The global installed base of analogue PMR/LMR radio products is estimated at over 30 million units and the transition to digital technology has commenced. RALCWI has a key role to play in addressing the technical and commercial requirements of certain market segments and full ownership of the technology is an important step in CML fully exploiting the market opportunities that we see. This is the first stage in an exciting phase of developments from CML, as it provides the underlying technology for digital voice solutions comparable in cost and performance to those in established analogue radio markets." 11/7/2011 23:18 | Interesting that last year they issued results on 15th June, then issued an IMS on 19th July to say that trading was materially ahead of expectations, then they issued the same statement again at the agm 3 days later! I wonder if we'll get an IMS before the agm again, I reckon that we will in view of the products and deals that were finalised towards the end of q4, eg: Just prior to the year end the Company signed an agreement with a large UK water company for the continued supply of telemetry and data transmission products as part of a multi-year programme. A new product development project that will permit entry into the GPRS M2M market neared completion during the final quarter. Then there's the deal with Toshiba: "Projects have already begun and first samples are expected during the first quarter of 2011." So plenty to look forward to. | jakleeds
11/7/2011 12:54 | "Through this coming year we will start to deliver flash memory controller ICs that address complementary areas of the wider market that demand alternative standard interfaces. These products will be based upon an evolution of our patented proprietary technology that was first launched in 1999. This should increase the total available market noticeably...." | jakleeds
