10/1/2012 01:50 | Yes, it's illiquid. Not so sure that the BDI is such a good proxy for trade. It's been distorted for while by lots of new shipping capacity coming on stream, depressing prices, but not necessarily doing much long-term harm to BMS's revenues (possibly the contrary). I note that BMS's reveneues were barely affected in 2008 - but we have had a profits warning this time round. I hold, happy to just rake in the divvies whilst (hopefully!) things recover. | marben100
09/1/2012 18:50 | Indeed, I've been sorely tempted recently when they were sub 300p - unfortunately never pulled the trigger.I use BDi as a proxy for world trade(it's been collapsing the last week particularly) and I don't see a reduction in world trade being good for the shipbroking business personally. But at sub 300p, for a buy and tuck away, more than happy to do that. | fangorn2
09/1/2012 18:46 | Not sure fang---but i've been pinching them for £3 a pop for 3-4 weeks now, so happy to buy and forget + of course, the divie :)) | redips2
09/1/2012 17:30 | Quite a move I see. Fairly illiquid stock I take it? | fangorn2

08/1/2012 10:06 | Braemar Howells get a mention in regards the NZ stranded container ship Container recovery company Braemar Howells said it believed 200-300 containers out of 800 still aboard the ship had washed overboard when the ship split. "Of those 20% will float - the remainder will sink," said Braemar Howells spokeswoman Claudine Sharpe. | haywards26
05/1/2012 19:19 | Ok thanks Aleman. I am thinking of grabbing a few of these while they are down here for the divi. | professor x
04/1/2012 14:18 | The BDI fell 6.5% yesterday.A rather large fall it seems. I've always used it as a proxy for world trade so surprised it didnt impact negatively on BMS(given this company's reliance on ship broking division) Have certainly looked at BMS with a view to investing over the last 12 months, decent divi yield. But will continue to watch for the moment. | fangorn2
04/1/2012 14:04 | Sold out over £5 but bought a few back recently. PMIs of late have been a bit stronger around the globe and even parts of Europe. Commodities seem to have picked up a touch. Doommongers look to have overdone it again. I'd expect these to rise slightly from £3 but the situation still looks volatile until Europe sorts itself out. | aleman
04/1/2012 13:34 | Are you still holding Aleman. CKN has just released a decent update so it can't be that bad out there!! | professor x
08/11/2011 21:30 | Decent statement from CKN today | rogerbridge

25/10/2011 12:16 | Good results - not as bad as the doom-mongers thought and with the div maintained this is on a super yield. Bought more earlier this week. This company has a strong record and I can see a gradual recovery from here. -- Basic EPS 17.60p (interim 2010/11: 25.99p) -- Interim dividend of 9.0p per share unchanged (interim 2010/11: 9.0p) -- Cash of GBP9.3m (31 August 2010: GBP14.8m) and no debt | deadly

06/10/2011 14:43 | I sold out a while back at something just over £5 but I think they've dropped a bit far so have bought a few back. THere are a lot of juicy yields about but this one has plenty of cash on the balance sheet to back it up. | aleman
26/9/2011 13:41 | yea me too i think folks are disappointed by the outlook for the stock. plus markets are volatile i dont think this rally is a beginning of a new bull market. | aleks_atanasov
26/9/2011 13:17 | Of all the stocks shown in the DOWN thread header as possible shorts, Braemar is proving remarkably capable of resisting the kind of market bounce that most of the other stocks there are experiencing. With a downbet running on it myself I'm not complaining - but I am surprised at it still dropping. | m.t.glass
14/9/2011 12:25 | I was also looking at Hellenic Carriers, which similarly seem to be struggling. Interesting to see that the Baltic Dry index has been climbing on a regular basis since late feb this year(when it was c 1000) Holding off a purchase in the hope it both cheapens and we see some evidence that this profits warning was a one off.. | fangorn2 |
