Read Stockdale Securities's note on BRAEMAR SHIPPING SERVICES PL (BMS), out this morning, by visiting hxxps://www.research-tree.com/company/GB0000600931

"These results vindicate the group’s diversification in challenging markets with Shipbroking performing well and Technical in line with expectations. Revenues rose by 9% to £159.1m and adj. PBT by 20% to £13.4m, marginally below our £13.6m, (consensus £13.5m). The maintained final dividend of 17p makes a total payout of 26p. Given expectations of broadly similar levels of activity this year, we have reduced our FY2017E adj. PBT by 5% to £13.7m. On a FY2017 PER of 13.0x and a yield of 5.7% we..."

Agree TTTIS. Decent performance in a difficult macro environment as some divisions have suffered. Flat divi but still represents a nice yield of just under 6%. share price should be nearer 500p if the lagging divisions get a pick-up. A recovering POO should also boost sentiment. A strong hold with maybe some upside to 475p in the short-term.

Steady plodder but increase in banking facility suggests they may have a target lined up, otherwise why bother?

"The group has performed well in markets, which have been volatile. It has benefitted from its diversification strategy that has ensured that it has positive momentum throughout the company, and in a trading update in January, it stated that it is on track to meet its objectives for the year. The group has a strong and consistent dividend policy. It has maintained its interim and final payment over the last five years, with an interim payment of 9p and a final payment of 17p, making a total of 26p. The cover was 1.2x at the previous full year 2014-2015, with the objective of increasing the cover to 1.5x. Braemar is due to announce final results on 16 May...."

Braemar Shipping Services PLC will release its preliminary results on Monday 16 May 2016 and not April as previously stated.

It was 19 May last year, so the latter, I'd say.

I've e-mailed Buchanan, who are paid a lot of money to draft and proof read these things.

I wonder how many people actually check these announcements before they put them out? Unimpressive.

Funny old things, shares. I've held both CKN and BMS for some ten years. In that time CKN has increased in value by 355%, BMS has exactly broken even

I hope their results are an improvement on this RNS:

Braemar Shipping Services PLC (LSE: BMS), a leading international provider of broking, consultancy, technical and other services to the shipping and energy industries, will announce its preliminary results for the year ended 29 February 2016 on Monday 16 April 2016.

You're probably right guys. As it is in my portfolio I always have half an eye on it and the price movements seemed like they should present an opportunity. However there are better opportunities elsewhere, tighter spreads and more predictable drivers of price change.

Thanks for your replies.

Agreed. The actual spread is generally narrower, but because the share is so illiquid, you might get stuck with a wide, real, spread just when you want to close a trade.

I would have thought that the buy/sell spread was generally way too large and unstable to make much sense of short term trading. CKN suffers from the same characteristics, if not so acutely.

As a long term holder here I have got used to large day to day price swings, often in the opposite direction to the market. I can see no reason for these fluctuations or any discernible pattern. Does anyone try to trade this in the short term?

Shhhhh jonwig, I'm trying to pick up a handful more at(what I deem to be) cheap prices, so keep it down and don't publicise anything positive please ;-)

Denis Petropoulos (PDMR) buys 19,500 shares at 429p.

"Mr. Petropoulos serves as Managing Director of Braemar Seascope Limited, the principal ship broking subsidiary of Braemar Seascope Group plc."

A decent sum of money (over £83,500) but the suprising thing is that he bought them on 29 Feb and must have forgotten to tell anybody until yesterday.

CWA - might be good timing: the Baltic Dry seems to be recovering, but there's been little speculative interest in this company. Buy when nobody else cares?

I've hardly any cash in my ISA so could only buy a few until the new season. With the dividend level so good (expected to maintain) I really want to shelter it from tax.

Afternoon

Just taken a few on this morning's drift in the hope it has fallen far enough-or at least is decent value and will pay me a worthwhile dividend whilst I wait for it to re-rate/recover. Good fortune to all holders.

gucci - Actually it was a sell. So 27,500 shares worth £117k sold by the CEO of the Shipbroking division (Braemar ACM). However at this stage I am fairy sanguine. He still holds 468k shares so hardly like he is selling up + so long as it is in isolation, shouldn't read too much into it imo. Possibly EOY tax planning? If other PDMRs start selling, will of course need to look more closely. Aimho
