Absolutely superb, been using it (mysharealert) for a few days thanks to it being mentioned above. It works anywhere in Europe too. NOthing quite like sitting in a cafe in Italy while you go bleep and Biotrace has gone up 10p. I then use the BT cellnet share 222 text message service to get a latest price update. Who needs WAP - not me, stick to simple cheap SMS messages. Thanks for pointing this one out.

Gosh - it's been a noisy phone today ! I tried the step at 1% and the beeps certainly kept me occupied as I walked through sunny woodlands. BLM rose almost up to my sell target (180) but not quite. VOD still jittery. BHM making commendable steps upwards.

Anybody else finding these alerts useful ?

Some of you people out there don't realise what your missing. My phone bill was colossal when I was getting all prices over the phone, when away from the computer.

Now, with MyShareAlert.com , I'm saving a lot of money ! It's got much more reliable since they forged a proper relationship with Lycos, and still free.

I've been editing alerts today, no bother, just click on the share.
Cassi, I guess you have a hardware/browser problem ?

Not difficult to improve on their web site at this time, I cannot change any alerts, unless it's my browser or something.

Interesting to have your test results soon ! The beeps are back to normal. The 'exciting developments' which they mentioned must be still hidden under wraps... maybe commercially sensitive...

They were talking of an improved website, when the proper service starts. They've had two months of feedback from users, so it should be good...

I have set up some alerts on mysharealert as a back up to my advfn ones, so we shall see how good it is!

There is one thing the site is definitely useful for, identifying epic codes quickly.

YES ! The MSA alerts are coming in. (but website is the same).

BUT NOTE : you may need to set up your limits again, for some shares.
After this outage, the actual price may have moved outside your range; it wont have triggered, and it wont have reset the limits; its OK when you've put the limits either side.

They are aware of this and are fixing it.

My best guess is - that we will see an upgraded web site at MSA tomorrow, to go with the new revamped relationship with Lycos. Just my guess. We'll see.

I guess there's been a proper contract arranged.
Tomorrow will be interesting.

Cheers BJ. Do I need L2 access or the premium board access/ Hopefully the latter. I've been analysing all the tariffs. Voders ahs 3 months free whilst orange has free wap weekends until thg end of may and this could have been from November though. However, orange only charges 5p per min compared to the rest of 10p. I have gone for orange as I will go for everyday 50 for 50p per day. I will use the next two weekends to sort out my wap connections.

Best see the ADVFN page all about WAP. Click MOBILE (top of this thread).

If you want ADVFN alerts converted to SMS for normal mobile, ask Cassi about Vizzavi; I used uboot.com but had bad delays.

Cassy, FBB is FBB :)

Bj, Get new mobile tomorrow with wap. Which advfn service do i need? Who converts emails to sms?

ADVFN alerts to email are free. Then you need a website to convert Emails to SMS. The Premium payment to ADVFN allows better WAP facilities,(e.g. seeing your Monitor) but I think the plain mobile alerts are the same.

Today I wasted some minutes on WAP at 10p/min, and simply got 'server error' at three different sites. Atrocious performance. In comparison, the MSA alerts - when working - are pure joy !

What is FBB, free bulliten board? I do not pay anything to ADVFN and get these alerts, they are not perfect but they are supposed to be real time and have been more reliable than others at present.

I think a big advatage of MSA is that you can request that the targets reset themselves automatically every 2% (or whatever). They keep you informed for days.

With ADVFN or GENIE (last time I was there) there was nothing like that; you had to go to the website to reset after every alert. That was a pain. I haven't used either for ages !

Why not use the ADVFN one as a back up? there's nothing to stop you using 2 alert systems channeled through 2 totally independant systems. It's a bit of a pain to program alerts for both but less expensive than missing them altogether.

I hope so too as I am not going to pay for something that isn't fully 100%.

PS I start a new contract next week. So I now need the alerts!!!! :(((((

EXPECT EXCITING DEVELOPMENTS ! !

Here is an official announcement, copied from the MSA site:

Update - Monday 14th May 2001
We are temporarily unable to send free SMS messages and we hope to have this situation resolved by Thursday 17th May. The good news is that we are currently negotiating with a major portal to launch the site, which will put an end to the occasional outages we have been forced to contend with during the testing phase. Expect some exciting developments in the next few days!!

------------------

Crooke - I am guessing, but I think there could be free alerts as well as premium alerts. Free ones would have 15 mins delay. (Delayed prices are much cheaper to get from Stock Ex. I believe.)

Your probably right. Lycos won't send free sms messages now?

I always thought the share-prices come from Stock Exchange to MSA; then MSA software processes this, and sends alerts to Lycos, which converts to SMS, and sends via radio masts to your mobile.

But we are both guessing ! Brian.

You've got me wrong. I guess Lycos have a deal with the FTSE or whoever provides the share prices. MSA has a deal with lycos to provide the share prices for share alerts. Lycos may provide others. I am guessing here but i suspect msa are ona tight budget and the deal with Lycos depended on no. of customers and those wanting live prices. Lycos have pulled the plug but the clever bit is this chain doesn't break up but a telco or even a financial website can buy msa or do a deal with msa. I know genies share alerts are terrible.
