01/5/2001 21:22 | Excellent news, 8ball. Yes, it's a great service, well programmed, and still free ! Note that MyShareAlert creates SMS messages using Lycos; and their time-stamp is one hour ahead. (German time ?) Doesn't really matter, but it will certainly puzzle you when you see it. The actual delay is about 17 mins. The alerts arrive between 8.17 am and 16.47 approx. | bj444
01/5/2001 18:45 | Swaped phones with the wife and problem solved. Great service, just hope it stays free for as long as possible. Cheers bj444. | 8 ball
01/5/2001 15:57 | My Web-Life virtually ground to a halt for two days, with the faulty modem. But MyShareAlert.com carried on, keeping me informed. It's brilliant, especially when the sun shines ! Do report any problems here, maybe some phones aren't totally compatible (like 8ball's experience) | bj444
29/4/2001 19:39 | Had email from MyShareAlert.com ; they say that their price feed will be REAL TIME when they start charging real money. At present, they use 15min delayed prices, then there is SMS delay, which I find is typically only 2 mins. You can still have this service FREE, they are keen to have people testing it, with all your various phones etc. - Good Luck with it - Brian. My dodgy modem has finally packed up. Doing this at an Institution. | bj444
28/4/2001 16:34 | 8 Ball, I use a nokia 6110 on a bt cellnet package. I am currently across in Norway and I have managed to get the sms messages through to follow my shares. Thanks for the tip. Minto | mintosbs
28/4/2001 12:02 | Nothing Ventured which transmit real time alerts (for £50/year) will be changing to a more direct SMS alert system in the near future, unfortunately at present they still need this conversion facility like ADVFN. I am still looking for a real time system, so I might try ADVFN first and if it hasn't improved move to Nothing Ventured when their direct alert system comes out. Like you BJ I don't want to spend my life sitting in front of a computer screen, but 15 minute delays are not acceptable. At present all the traders with decent systems have had their slice before I can get to it. | cassiopeia
28/4/2001 10:21 | Bj444 Thanks for comment i am on vodafone with a gsm phone. If i use just one alert i am able to guess what it is. I will try another phone it may solve the problem. Many thanks. | 8 ball
27/4/2001 23:31 | Today was AMAZING... I was doing jobs around the house and garden. The Alerts came all day long, telling me about rising techs ; then at 4 pm I sold Atlantic Telecom (over the phone) which has risen 15 % since I bought it YESTERDAY !! Didn't need the PC at all. It's nice to have a totally different day, no PC, and make a profit TOO !! Reminder to ADVFN, as to what is a REALLY USEFUL alert - BEEP-BEEP "BOOKHAM has risen to 320p from 312p. " That's what you get from MyShareAlert.com , its good. | bj444
27/4/2001 22:31 | Cassiopeia - I'll be interested if anyone has tried those websites. But when I went to Mybriefcase.com recently, it was absolutely loaded with silly business jargon; very difficult to find your way around. It seemed to be aimed at big buisnesses. I soon gave up. I'm happy with MyShareAlert, until someone finds a better one. | bj444
27/4/2001 22:02 | Answer for 8ball - I'm surprised; I always get useful messages from MyShareAlert, they always say the price and time. I have Nokia phone on Virgin network - no problems. Piscean - totally agree, I've made this comment too, ADVFN alerts dont tell us much. High time they improved this. MyShareAlert is definitely better at the moment. Thats why I use it ! | bj444
27/4/2001 20:29 | I understand that some alert systems send out an SMS email which is converted to text. ADVFN mentions the following https://www.mybriefc But my provider Vodaphone/Singlepoin Presumably I could join all these with different emails. Does anyone know which are the quickest and most reliable? | cassiopeia
27/4/2001 19:10 | It would be nice if AdvFN alerys actually told you more in the alert (ie. at least the current state of play). The SMS message outlined above seems to do just that - come on AdvFN, surely this can't be that difficult. )( PS. yes, I have let AdvFN know about this request but didn't get a reply...tsk! | piscean
27/4/2001 18:43 | I set just one alert for claims direct at 22p. Alert worked but message read 77=8? =:::? 40--8?7? Did i set wrong or is it my phone. Can anyone advise. | 8 ball
26/4/2001 17:31 | I would say MyShareAlert is pretty reliable when it's running. Sometimes it's not running for some reason, like this afternoon. The delay is because they use a delayed price feed. Anything faster would cost more. They say they might do this later, for those willing to pay more. Cheers, Brian. | bj444
26/4/2001 09:02 | BJ I thought you meant share price alerts by landline, these might be more reliable than SMS, not as good as mobile but at least one doesn't have to sit in front of the computer all day. If you then had unanswered or engaged landline calls diverted to mobile, if so this could be the best system, if one exists. | cassiopeia
26/4/2001 08:44 | Perhaps more expriments need to be made with advfn to a new email account with fast access to send to mobile. | crooke
25/4/2001 22:32 | Sorry, what's obvious to me may not be to others ! For Real-time prices I can phone my usual NatWest PriceLine for instant automated prices, tap in code for companies; real time prices come as computerised voice. Or can phone the Human brokers. And deal over phone, sitting on a tree stump, with birds singing - Brian. | bj444
25/4/2001 22:03 | BJ you said "Then you can get specific real-time prices over the phone" You mean you ask for a share price and it tells you? or one can get real time prices via a landline phone call? not sure what you mean. | cassiopeia
25/4/2001 17:47 | Agreed, MyShareAlert has a 17 min delay; but then it rings my phone !! It is good enough for my purposes, but OK, day traders need precise timing so they need instant alerts. ADVFN alerts to your computer seem to be fast; but then they dont ring a bell, which you need if youre doing other jobs. (I tried ADVFN alerts via uboot for Email-to-SMS , and the delay was hopeless) I find the 17 min delayed alerts are excellent to keep me informed as to the general movement of the markets - while walking or sunbathing ... Then you can get specific real-time prices over the phone. I'll be using it Big Time when the weather improves... heres hoping anyway ! | bj444
25/4/2001 16:46 | Problem is bj is that the mysharealert prices are 15 minute delayed (at least). This may seem unimportantant to all but day traders. But look at the intraday chart for FRS today (25th April) This is typical of what happens during a technical break you can get all or most of the days movement in less than an hour, and this can be a fair proportion of the months movement in many cases. The ADVFN E mail alert (to my computer) was actually sent almost on time, only a few mins late 15.35 for a 392p setting, I'm not sure how long the SMS message would have taken, but my mobile is so unreliable anyway. The real time nothing ventured system seems to send out an E mail which needs to be converted to text for the mobile which sounds too complicated although they plan to use real text soon. Unfortunately I missed this one completely since I was out between 2pm and 4pm. | cassiopeia
24/4/2001 17:29 | Hi Crooke - It's free for ANYONE at the moment; and I understand those who are particularly helpful with testing etc may still get it free when others start paying, but no written guarantee ! | bj444
24/4/2001 09:57 | RU on their bonus scheme!!!! Ta for the suggestion. | crooke
23/4/2001 23:28 | Note - Almost any mobile phone will do, so long as it receives text messages. Point is, that you dont need to keep phoning for share prices, because THEY will come to YOU !! | bj444
23/4/2001 21:09 | These SMS alerts give you the LATEST PRICE when a share moves 2% (or whatever you choose). Example: BEEP-BEEP "PSION has risen to 98.25p from 97.00p. Sent 12-Apr-2001 11:48:34 " | bj444
23/4/2001 20:54 | Time to GET A LIFE ! Trade among the TULIPS (or ROSES ) - with NOW.... you can be ALERTED by mobile phone (SMS message) whenever your shares change by 2% or so. You can trade almost anywhere. All you need with you is a few target prices - and your mobile phone. See website - It is FREE of charge, for a while. As it gets better , anything could happen; we may have to pay. The reliablility is PRETTY GOOD now. Those committed to computer-screen trading for months on end can get nasty medical problems. Seriously !! But for those of us still using a phone-broker, this is definitely the sunniest way forward ! Roll on the sunny weather and big profits. | bj444 |
