This share went ex didvidend 05.04.2006, payment to be 0.375. You probably all know that already but I've held these shares for a number of years and this always happens when they go ex-dividend. Seen them go as low as 9p so recent volatility in the price is not out of the ordinary. Actually been as high as 14p this year and a low of 11p but you probably all know that as well. This is not a recommendation of any sort. Wouldn't dream of it. There never seem s to be much news in between results so it's just a case of sit and wait until 14/07

I see in the sunday times...birse civils 31st best co to work for in UK . It quoted them as having 170m turnover with 5m profits.
Strikes me birse used to talk about the whole company, but are now talking about parts of it...if the strategy is to work for bie plc, presumably they will either close down the rest ( cos nobody would buy them ) , or sell birse civils ...say for 10 times earnings = 50m.
On second thoughts they might get something for the water business, and the rail business,,,and perhaps the underground business,,when they make money.
So this is their strategy..sort out one at a time and sell them .
Presumably the exceptionals would continue , but would reduce as the management was able to concentrate their efforts , and put some of the cash received towards sorting bad jobs.
Is this total dreamworld , or could it be that bie has a big future? and how do we find out?

That's a good one sandbank. I've recovered much quicker than good old bie but hope springs eternal. There's always the prelims to look forward to some goodies but I suspect for the next year at least there will be more exceptionals, more teasers about large forward order book and prospects on rail and water contracts. Same old same old. A bit of a lift in margins would come in handy but I suspect they will remain as ever, quiet on that one Thank you for the good wishes, just taking bie a bit too much to heart, so to speak.

MR TIBBS: Sorry to hear you have been unwell. Hope both you and BIE will recover.

I will hang on a bit longer to see what happens.Preliminary results should be on April 5th It's high time we shareholders were, so to speak, re-imbirsed.

Well Mr footie fan, as they say, it's all gone quiet over here. Leicester picking up now old greetin' face been removed. Oh no, he might come home now. Do you think we could as the city if they could pay us some of the money we lost, like £5million please?

Thank you for your instructive background. Sorry if I sounded critical. I have been a shareholder for a few years but never gave them a lot of thought due to ever ongoing troubles and was considering topping up on my holding when I thought it best to see what the "main players" thought of bie.

I agree completely with your sentiments on mission statements and actually, don't pay them any credence after working with a company that was customer/financial related and whose mission statement was nothing short of fiction. I thought the citibank fiasco was going to produce a spellbounding statement from bie showing the tiddler was badly wronged and was going to give the big bully a kicking. Wasn't quite the outcome and will now pay more attention.

Delay to your reply due to ill health, not ignorance athough I certainly don't lack in either

I don't know much about this company other than it "enjoys" making exceptionals and court appearances but there does seem an unusually high turnover for little profit. Looks like a margin/cost problem. Anyone offering a brief history of events?

CONTACT WIN? - There doesn't appear to have been an RNS issued on this but the following has appeared in Contract Journal:-

Contract Journal, UK - 5 Jan 2006
Birse Civils has won a £3.4m highways contract from Kent County Council for improvements to junction 4 of the M20

That's on top of the £7.9m contract reported in the same journal last month by Birse Rail, in partnership with sister company Birse Civils (North West) from Staffordshire County Council - but I don't think there was an RNS on that either.

No 1, I wondered if 'punt' was a spello but I realised that p on the keyboard is nowhere near c!

Guess I'm of a similar sentiment, Birse can pick up in price but the existing board needs sacking to get any proper institutional investor credibility.

IMHO, DYOR, etc.

Now they have got citibank out of their hair the price should continue to rise.
That is as long as they do not get involved in any further litigation which they are very prone to.I think they are now worth a punt.

As long as it isn't Birse building anything!

They always end up in Court and with a penalty for stuffing something up!

Sad but true!
