As inflation picks up, gilt yields will inevitably rise. That will reduce pension deficits.

Thanks again That is not Good News. Not new News , but an update post- Brexit. The worsening is partly about gilt yields , but nevertheless BAE is going to have to up its contributions , which is not good for shareholders.

BAE Systems is today identified as the employer that will struggle the most to honour pension promises in an analysis of retirement provision by British companies. The defence group heads two out of four measures of potential strain in an assessment by Hymans Robertson, consulting actuaries. - The Times

Agreed. I don't know why companies like GS. are tolerated...Clinton contributions come to mind...I wish I knew which of the brokers, if any, are above board?

Good to see the share price robust. I somehow suspect that enthusiasm for a Saudi Arms "embargo" will soon be forgotten as the next wave of atrocities in the Middle East hits the press.
Peace in the Middle East seems as distant as it was 2 Millenia ago .Probably 3 or 4 but my history is ropy of those times.

I dont see the big issue myself, using French steel - it's not as if the submarines are being built outside of the UK which would be the scandal.

But, given all the vociferous baiting and threats emanating from Hollande I'd have given the steel contract to a UK firm and told the French one to FO. Worth it if similar price, or marginally more expensive, to go British.
