06/1/2015 09:12 | bones: About 10% of Sunbelt's business relates to the shale oil sector. The question was raised in the presentation after the results. | james97
06/1/2015 08:42 | Appears that Evercore in USA downgraded an AHT competitor, United Rentals Inc, to sell, citing effect of oil plunge on construction there. Does AHT have a large exposure to that industry? The company made no reference to oil-related issues on 10th December when they guided higher. | bones
05/1/2015 22:53 | AHT does its business in Uncle Sam's backyard. Hence the afternoon rise as American funds piled in (perhaps on the broker upgrade) even as the Dow tanked after slipping on Oil and Greece. | bones
05/1/2015 19:59 | Dow down 1.8% so far and URI down............10%! | discodave4
05/1/2015 17:52 | kilgallp The market is running scared because of Greece. AHT sails through it all like a graceful swan. | bracke
05/1/2015 17:02 | I understand your point re: satisfaction! But I guess I'm satisfied, my profits now outweigh my losses of years ago. That said,, I tried to lock in some profits some time ago, only to watch them soar onwards! I suppose I should have more of 'a plan'! Been out most of the day, so don't know what's been causing the fluctuations with AHT.....that said, I'm not sure I'd have been any the wiser if I'd been online watching all day! I checked before going out, my portfolio mostly blue, AHT up 26p. Early afternoon, checked and my portfolio mainly red, AHT only 5p up. Got home, red still had the advantage, but AHT up 21p! Oh well, time to fess up to HL. Just briefly I appeared to be a successful trader! | kilgallp
05/1/2015 15:58 | kilgallp It's a point of honour between AHT and I. I will have satisfaction! It's odd. '0' is zero but it can make such a difference.......typ I was looking at my watch list earlier, every one of them was down bar one guess which. | bracke
05/1/2015 15:39 | Back to the desks and analysts looking again at those storming results of the 12th Dec. Panmure now says TP 1457. Havn't checked if this posted before but its worth repeating. | broadwood
05/1/2015 15:07 | Bracke, it's not always good to dwell on the past. I lost a shedload on AHT when they disclosed financial irregularities years ago, and the price plummeted, I vowed never to come back. Eventually i did, and it's probably been my most successful investment. Btw, I did txfr my stocks to HL. Imagine my brief shock when I discovered the shares had arrived, and I had about £400k more than I expected! My AHT holding had an extra 0 on my holding. I'm out currently, and will contact them on my return to rectify matters. 😥 | kilgallp
05/1/2015 14:41 | 2flat I can be vulgar..........if there's a profit in it! I do find the 'academic' side interesting. AHT and I have a 'history'. It done me wrong so it's personal. This share does like to draw in shorters and then it turns nasty and rips them to bits. It is my bete noir but one day............... | bracke
05/1/2015 14:08 | Bracke As an elite guru I assume you are an academic and above vulgar commensalism, who's dream is to short AHT successfully just to prove it can be done. Cheers | 2flatpack
05/1/2015 13:10 | 2flat "Without to much point scoring." ==================== There has been considerable points scoring by fenners.......he has made a ton of money from AHT. I haven't. | bracke
05/1/2015 10:40 | What a great thread Clear concise exchange of views. Without to much point scoring . Cheers | 2flatpack
05/1/2015 09:53 | Good day fenners 2014 FTSE -183 DOW +1246. Bearing in mind something like 95% of the profit comes from the US the FTSE is unlikely to have much impact on the share price There has not been a reversal on the DOW, although it may be argued that the fall in October came close but it did not follow through. It has been a succession of higher highs and higher lows. Until there is a series of lower highs and lower lows there is no reversal. As for "raging bulls" the DOW appears to be doing a fair impression of one. "Hot air and hype" seems very similar to QE and share buybacks to bolster SPs' because the earnings are too low to achieve it own their own. I don't know when the reversal will come but I think you know as well as I that it will. | bracke
05/1/2015 09:09 | 05 Jan 2015 Ashtead Group PLC AHT Panmure Gordon Buy 1,183.50 1,165.00 - 1,457.00 Reiterate SP TARGET 1457p | mike740
04/1/2015 11:25 | Bracke: "At some point the market will reverse and when the decline gathers momentum the good go with the bad." Well the FTSE declined 200 points in 2014 so isn't that a market that has already reversed? Its hardly the trend of a raging bull market. Which is fine by me as it would seem less like hot air and hype. | fenners66
03/1/2015 12:47 | Some may find the chart below of interest. The upper green horizontal line is a support zone with another below. If they fail to support there is a good probability of the price dropping to the lower of the three parallel red lines. If support holds and price rises the target would be the middle of the three parallel green lines. It's probably fair to say that interest rate will determine price direction. 02/1/2015 23:00 | From half year report:"a 1% change in the US dollar exchange rate would impact pre-tax profit by approximately GBP4m".DD | discodave4
02/1/2015 22:47 | The US $ gained about 2 c on the £ today and what was it £4m extra £ profit per c? Well that could add £80m to our valuation then. I guess as trade in the USA continues to grow that £4m per c will increase as well. | fenners66

01/1/2015 12:30 | Good day optomistic Thank you and likewise. " not least fingers who must well deserve a little rest from his thread now and again :-)" ==================== A little rest ok but AWOL going on desertion! | bracke
31/12/2014 12:46 | Good day Bracke and a very happy new year to you, and of course to all others, not least fingers who must well deserve a little rest from his thread now and again :-) | optomistic
31/12/2014 11:43 | Good day fingers Thanks for the 'tweet'. I hope you are keeping well. I note you have not been posting much on your thread. | bracke
31/12/2014 11:36 | Nice one fingers xxd! I share the sentiments if not the artistry: My best wishes too for a happy and prosperous New Year to everyone, and thanks to all at AHT, who have served us so well this year! | ianwwwhite
31/12/2014 11:02 | 2flat "but major reversal is this a prediction or are you just upsetting us sap's." ==================== Would I do such a thing! Not a prediction but dare I say it.......yes I do .......an inevitability. At some point the market will reverse and when the decline gathers momentum the good go with the bad. All part of the market cycle. | bracke |
