Interesting modest purchases by the exec directors today , post the Q3 results . Good money after bad ? Or astute timing , time will tell . I would feel better if the company cut the div by 50% , still a healthy yield of circa 6% ( vs 12% ) , and would reduce the need to increase borrowings to pay the uncovered dividend .

Gengulphus,

Point taken, troll feeding is wearisome and cluttering up the board when trying to clean it up is a bit contradictory and an Augean stables sort of thing. I will take your advice, despite really disliking trolls and sophistry.

bolador,

I think you mean well, but please apply the don't-feed-the-trolls principle. Or if you feel you must feed them, only do so once or twice.

Why? Because for anyone like me who has filtered them, it's your posts that are becoming the problem...

QP,

Warthogs live in the bush or savannah, never seen one in a swamp, not comfy at all.Lions are more of a reality to them than poor old misquoted Stendhal, and believe me, wise warthogs do not go anywhere without checking the rearview mirror.

APF now anyone ?

you just cannot grasp these concepts or ideas. they are just too far above you.

warthogs is more your swampy level where you feel less out of your comfort zone.

with you, talking about Stendhal is like throwing pearls to swine. You are unable to understand.

Reality is a mirror walking down the street.

I always thought the red and the black was a reference to the army or the church?

QP,

Except Stendhal did not say what you quote did he ? Now in retreat you widen your argument.Mirrors, books, reality,la verite, stendhalian concepts, good heavens man get a grip.
As you do not seem to know what obfuscate means lets just stick with wriggling which you always do when nailed.
You got the quote wrong. End of.

laughable. Whether to bet on black or red ( le rouge et le noir) is exactly what the book is about.

You have no clue what you are talking about or what Stendhal's bet in the book is about.

ned,

funny!

best comment all day.

it is clear that no-one is familiar with Stendhal's concept of realism as he portrays it in his writings.

The book is sub-titled " A CHRONICLE of 1830". The book's epitaph is " La Verite, l'apre verite".

"The Truth, the bitter truth."

You just don't get it. The book is the reality.

Reality is indeed a mirror walking down the street.

It is fascinating how many people find this concept so disturbing and frightening.

They don't want to look in the mirror of reality as it frightens them.

My apologies for leaving out the LE, a small typo.

As to the rest of your post, prove it. And why does your quote start with "c'est" ?Think before answering and look up obfuscating please.

Stendhal was a syphilitic, who suffered dreadfully especially from the awful medications available at the time. However I do not think even on his worst day he would think of betting the farm on black as a concept of his own.

"Stendhalien concept"indeed! Bit rich for a bulletin board on a small listed stock surely ? It's just ridiculous QP, you are like an old warthog barging through the bush angry, dimwitted and feeble.

QP, the quote you give appears to miss the start. I can find "un roman, c’est un miroir qu’on promène le long d’un chemin" for example, which obviously supports Bolador.

Reality is a mirror walking down the street.

Many are too scared to look into it.

As usual obfuscating.

No the book is not called Le Rouge et Noir. It is called LE Rouge et LE Noir.

Your quote is rubbish. It is not even grammatically correct and has been lifted from some third-rate source on the web.

As I said before, APF bet the farm on black.

As I said before, many are too naive to grasp this stendhalian concept.

PS.

"Reality is a mirror walking down the street."

For the benefit of the uneducated, of which there appears to be quite a few on this bulletin board :-

This is a direct translated quote and important theory from renowned and highly-regarded 19th.Century French philosopher, Stendhal as he wrote in his seminal work, Le Rouge et le Noir in 1830.

The French original version of Stendhal's very famous words are:

"c'est un miroir qu'on promène le long d'un chemin".

If anyone believes that Stendhal and his theories are garbage, their lack of education is jaw-dropping.

As I said before, certain parties are too naive to be able to grasp the concept of " Reality is a mirror walking down the street" - or indeed too fearful to look into it, as Stendhal expounded.

bolador, you seem like a sensible guy. However Neil and chris are both thick as planks, Neil in particular has a history of buying complete dogs and seems to have lost on virtually everything he buys, he is down over 50% here for example. That tells you something. chris could not even do the most basic maths in one post and had to go back and delete the post and try and pretend it never happened. These are the holders and cheerleaders for APF.

The SMH article contains the following sentence:- " Australian coal miners have found it difficult to extend or expand existing coal mines in recent years; Rio experienced that first-hand when community opposition hampered its efforts to expand the Mount Thorley Warkworth mine in NSW."

Julian Treger and connected persons hold 5.4 million shares, just over three per cent.

Yesterdays purchase of 20000 shares was made via his pension fund which fund will have limits as to how much can be invested for tax reasons; like everyone else's pension. This may have been a factor in the amount invested.

Without further details and even more philosophical consideration it is not possible to judge the scale of the purchase against "the scheme of things" or indeed even if any of yesterdays purchases can be considered a "lot".

Some may view that Nellyb675/7760 has the right approach to the problem, although it is a little robust before lunch.
