S. F. A - but seeds would probably buy them from you at face value!

Are they worth anything? I still have my original £500's worth.
What are they potentially worth now?

Hi Canford

A two-year limit from when? From when the loss becomes absolute ie time when you ditch them? Because ACA has been a loss for as long as I remember! lol

I believe HM Revenue allow a strict 2 year time limit to claim the loss on the negligible value basis!

But then its all the loss or none, rather than balancing the loss against gains? I suppose that is ideal if you want to take the whole loss at once. I guess they may also question why the loss wasn't taken ealier too, if it is used oportunistically exactly when there is a gain.

... just my thoughts.

The Revenue will by concession allow your loss if your holding falls to a negligible value. no need to find a geezer down the pub to but them.

When you realise a gain, and adjust for your allowance, etc, you can calculate how many ACA you need to dispose of to realise the right loss and have zero tax to pay. If you find another ACA holder to pass them on to, then they should be understanding.

If I make a forture on Antonov I'll consider taking a loss on ACA by selling you mine for £1. :) At the moment that doesn't look likely as I'd want a dividend if the company does well - but you never know.

Hi Crystalclear
I could knock £45,000 off a tax bill if only I could make that kind of money on another share! :-) Maybe if Gold Oil coughs up, I can reconsider.

Pete

PS - jotoha1, I was aware of the dilution. I just wanted to know how I could use the situation (and loss situation) to maximise any capital gains situation. I can't see 1500 shares doing much.

Theoretically you have to sell them to somebody at arm's length to realise your losses. If the gain from reduced tax is considerable then it might worth doing.
For example if you can knock £20,000 off a tax bill, that would be better than getting £10,000 from ACA in the future.

Half serious, half joking, see whether you can find somebody in your pub who will take them for £1, and tell the guy you'll lend him the £1 and are interested in buying them back in a couple of months for £10; making sure you find somebody honest, and don't forget stamp duty to companies house (twice), and possibly reregistering the shares with ACA's registrars too.

Your shares have been diluted and are now no longer tradeable on the exchange>aca is now a private company so you are unable to set of your loses!

Bought in 100k at 6.84p and hopefuly will see it rise through the roof. Can anyone remember what you can agree with Inland Revenue about shares that are unlisted / unlikely to do anything again? I know I could sell to my missus for 1p for the lot (although she'd probably decline! -lol)and declare a loss but I'm sure I read that someone did something else with their ACA shares so that they could still use the losses against future CGT. It would save me trawling through a lot of painful memories! Thanks.

Hi Moni
What's your take on us getting anything from our ACA shares? Although I'm not counting on anything, I still have a few and wondered if they might ever be worth anything. I get the impression that even if they found a pint of oil under someone's car, it would have to be split so many ways that it would evaporate before we got a sniff!
Thankfully, I didn't go with Gold Oil so haven't lost £1500 already! Watching for news on Monday though as it still seems a good buy at 7p.

Pete

News on Former ACA properties + planned IPO of Tethys

From Canargo new release March 1 2007

KAZAKHSTAN - TETHYS

Following on from the recent private placement of shares in the Company's subsidiary Tethys Petroleum Limited ("Tethys") in which some $17.4 million (gross) of capital was raised, with CanArgo retaining a 67% interest in Tethys, work has continued on the Kyzyloi Field development and the Akkulka exploration program in Kazakhstan this being carried by Tethys' 70% subsidiary BN Munai LLP.

Tethys has now entered into an Engagement Letter with Jennings Capital Inc. of Calgary, Alberta ("JCI") engaging JCI to act as lead agent with respect to a planned initial public offering ("IPO") and listing of Tethys on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) later this year. In addition McDaniel and Associates Consultants Limited have been engaged to carry out an independent evaluation of Tethys' projects in connection with the proposed listing. The full details of the planned IPO have yet to be finalised.

Hi Roberto999
Funny enough but I was looking at these the other day. My only concern was that z-34 is only a license to explore for 18 months before a decision is made to pull out or invest more money. Having been burnt by the ACA fiasco of lies and deceit, I am approaching more cautiously and am doing a lot more research. I suppose the fact of prices were around double what they are now back in Sept / Nov last year means that someone is hoping they find oil fairly soon!
I'm still looking at it for now and await any other comments.
Regards to all

Thanks. I just depressed myself! I invested £10k (mickey mouse money) in Dragon Oil ages ago. Now worth £53k. So I am (virtually) rich! Would have been tax free thanks to ACA. I'm just about to start trying again, maybe with 5K or so. Any tips or suggestions would be welcomed.
Happy New Year to everyone except Cedric!

AM - I recently received a set of accounts and it looks as though good ole Cedric has stepped down from being a Director - is there now an end to this long death by a thousand cuts?
