Posted at 30/1/2025 09:39 by geckotheglorious Claverhouse banking on streamlined HSBC HSBC (HSBA) has been a recent winner for JPMorgan manager Callum Abbot, as the banking giant streamlines and becomes a more agile operation. The Citywire Elite Companies A-rated bank is the second largest position in JPMorgan Claverhouse (JC Abbott, who took over the running of the trust last summer after Will Meadon retired after nearly three decades, said HSBC had positively contributed to returns. ‘Positive momentum continued after HSBC announced strategic reorganisation, aimed at simplifying and streamlining the group, which is expected to result in net cost savings and a more agile and efficient operation,’ he said. Although the October Budget heightened volatility in the UK, the economy returned to growth last year. Abbott is ‘optimistic ‘We believe UK equities offer an attractive entry point to the long-term investor, and we remain focused on selecting high-quality, resilient companies that can invest capital at high returns to drive strong and sustainable earnings growth,’ he explained. Posted at 17/1/2025 12:29 by spawny100 I was getting far too top heavy here. Was over 20% of my portfolio so sold a few and moved profits to PHP. Hsba still my biggest holding! |
Posted at 18/12/2024 16:33 by spawny100 Beautiful 4 year chart never mind 4 months! I recently reduced or liquidated a lot of my holdings so now 50% in cash. Thankfully I decided to keep all my hsba shares because of recent performance. Consequently now very overweight here - nearly 20% of my portfolio! |
Posted at 04/12/2024 12:39 by supermarky Well hsba is definitely on the up.Do you guys have any target prices? On first inspection it seems to be near the top of the major up channel |
Posted at 04/12/2024 10:01 by anhar I have long held it in my income port but I wouldn't describe HSBA as a "solid high yielder". That's because divis were cut back severely in 2008 and 2009, then again in 2019 and 2020. This tells me that they are quite willing to cut payouts when it suits and do not rank long term divi growth as a major priority. For me, a solid high yielder would require a good history of divi growth. I'm happy to hold but am under no illusions that its divi is as reliable as some other shares in my diversified port. |
Posted at 02/12/2024 15:26 by spawny100 Very consistently strong share price for the last 4+ years almost going up in a straight line. By far my easiest share to not lose sleep over and I'm wishing I'd backed the truck up and been even more greedy! |

Posted at 26/9/2024 10:02 by anhar I dislike that habit of some analysts of adding buybacks to divis and showing the resulting "yield" as an ultra high figure, thereby giving an utterly misleading view of a share to the naive.Yield is based on divis as a percentage of the share price and that's all there is to it. Clear, simple, factual in stating what the investor will receive in cash. Views are divided on the merits of BBs but whatever your opinion, they are not part of "yield". |
Posted at 16/8/2024 09:05 by anhar Spud is correct. There is no correlation between buybacks and a rising share price though you often see the view round these boards that there is some connection. Consequently I think it is misleading for PIs to welcome BBs if their reason is an expected price rise. There may be other benefits of BBs, though personally I'm dead against them in most cases, but a rising price aint one of them. |
