CalHFA Executive Director joins other national
housing leaders on the Federal Housing Finance Agency’s Advisory
Committee on Affordable, Equitable and Sustainable Housing
The Federal Housing Finance Agency has selected California
Housing Finance Agency Executive Director Tiena Johnson Hall as one
of 20 national housing thought leaders to serve on the
organization’s inaugural Advisory Committee on Affordable,
Equitable and Sustainable Housing.
According to an FHFA news release, the Advisory Committee will
inform the organization’s policy development, rulemaking, and
community and public engagement functions. FHFA oversees Fannie
Mae, Freddie Mac and the Federal Home Loan Banks, and the committee
will advise on issues related to both single-family and multifamily
housing.
“I am honored to represent CalHFA on this committee and thrilled
to lend my knowledge and experience to discussions about the
critical issues that homeowners, prospective homeowners and renters
across the country are facing,” said Johnson Hall, who will serve a
two-year term through 2026.
Earlier this year, Johnson Hall was also selected to the
National Housing Conference’s National Advisory Council (NAC) and
the UCLA Ziman Center for Real Estate’s Affordable Housing Advisory
Council, and she is currently serving on the National Council of
State Housing Finance Agencies (NCSHA) Board of Directors.
“Being in this position at the federal level gives California
greater opportunity to inform national housing policy and will be
helpful as our state continues our work to leverage federal
resources,” said Johnson Hall.
Johnson Hall has been Executive Director of CalHFA since her
appointment by Governor Newsom in 2021 and served on the Agency’s
Board of Directors since 2014. She has two decades of experience in
Community Development banking, has worked for local government
housing agencies and spent time as a nonprofit affordable housing
developer.
The California Housing Finance Agency was created in 1975 with
the goal of helping more Californians find a place to call home.
CalHFA has helped more than 220,000 low- and moderate-income
homebuyers with $37.5 billion in first mortgages and used $9.4
billion in financing for the construction and preservation of more
than 78,000 rental housing units throughout the state. CalHFA is a
self-supported state agency that doesn't rely on taxpayer dollars
for its operational costs but is currently administering various
state and federal resources on behalf of the state through targeted
programs. For more information on CalHFA programs, and how we are
