BatteriesDaimler teams up with Stellantis to build European gigafactoriesAutomaker to take 33% equity stake in joint venture backed by French and German governmentsOla Kallenius, chief executive officer of DaimlerDaimler chief executive Ola Kallenius unveils a Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle this month. Mercedes has rolled out electric versions of its flagship S-Class saloon and E-Class models © Bloomberg September 24, 2021 6:04 am by Joe Miller in FrankfurtDaimler is to join forces with competitor Stellantis and energy company TotalEnergies to develop and produce battery cells for electric cars in Europe. The German luxury automaker said on Friday that it would take a 33 per cent equity stake in Automotive Cells Company, a joint venture set up by Stellantis and TotalEnergies last year, which plans to build gigafactories in France and Germany.ACC has already secured €1.3bn in financial support from the French and German governments. Daimler said it would invest a further "mid-three-digit-million euros" next year in the project, on which it will hold two board seats, and be an equal partner with Stellantis and Total.Additional funding from Daimler over the next few years will not exceed €1bn, the carmaker added, but it said the entire project would require more than €7bn in investment to reach "a capacity of at least 120 gigawatt hours in Europe" by the end of the decade."This new partnership allows us to secure supply, to take advantage of economies of scale and to provide our customers with superior battery technology," said Daimler chief executive Ola Kallenius. The project would "ensure Europe remains at the heart of the auto industry," he told reporters.Mercedes-Benz, which is owned by Daimler, said this year that it would be prepared to phase out internal combustion engine models by the end of the decade, "wherever market conditions allow".The Stuttgart-based manufacturer has rolled out electric versions of its flagship S-Class saloon and E-Class models in recent months, and plans to offer emissions-free versions of the rest of its line-up. Smart, the brand Daimler co-owns with China's Geely, is already fully electric.RecommendedElectric vehicles: recycled batteries and the search for a circular economyIn order to produce its electric vehicles, Mercedes-Benz would need at least 200GWh in battery capacity, the brand said in July when it announced it would build eight gigafactories worldwide: one in the US, four in Europe and three in Asia.ACC said last year that it would build gigafactories in Douvrin, France and Kaiserslautern, Germany, close to the site occupied by Stellantis brand Opel.Kallenius said Daimler had spoken to other European battery cell manufacturers, including Sweden's Northvolt and Britishvolt, but that ACC was the "best fit" for the Mercedes owner.ACC's production capacities "will cover a large part of our demand," he added, but did not rule out further collaborations on the continent.Daimler already buys batteries from third parties such as China's CATL and has a stake in Chinese battery-cell manufacturer Farasis, which aims to build a plant in Germany. The German automaker denied media reports that early batteries made by Farasis - whose shares have lagged behind others in the sector this year - had proved to be below standard, adding that the battery maker "remains a key partner for Mercedes-Benz".

Yes,the Zinnwald stock will hardly touch the sides when/if it is sold.It will be put through and placed with institutions who(it will be presumed) are more than likely to add to their holdings.Hence, things go into reverse and the price recovers. As canny as it might be to sell ahead of these anticipated placings, having been in both BCN,EMH over the years and here since single figures,i'm prepared just to let things take their course.Call it laziness.

Any blocks for sale here will get broked into institutions, they want this type of asset, but they can’t buy in normal mkt as liquidity is too thin. I am not remotely worried about shares “flooding̶1; the mkt. Look at the institutions invested here and at BCN. They have massively deep pockets and they want these type of assets…

ditto to Steele's great answer, also dragged down with other miners imv but perhaps unjustifiably since purely a lithium play, so a waiting game for now then

I’ve been selling down my holdings, partly in anticipation of a sell off by baccanora holders, and possibly some of the other bigger players.

Also, there could be wider turbulent times in the markets.... after effects from brexit, covid, recent political stresses, such as Auctus fallout, China with evergrnde, etc etc

Always good to have some decent cash to take advantage.....

And of course if Znwd drops further, it will become a much more attractive buy proposition...

bounty hunter and stepplejack need only look at the RNS dated 22/6/21 to see why the ZNWD share price has been weak recently. Savvy investors were worried about this potential selling of a large chunk of shares from today. This potential overhang has been having a negative effect on the share price recently. And it could happen again in 3 months time.

And another chunk to be available to be sold in another 3 months time,5chipper.
Investors need to read the RNS's and remember the facts they contain.

Yes,it is strange that its retreated around 25% over the last month. The fact that you can buy BCN as a 'cheap way in' might partially explain the weakness.Perhaps some proprietary books are doing a subtle bit of arbitrage but i'm not convinced that's the reason.I think the stock is just showing the erratic price behaviour displayed by all junior miners.Any further weakness and i'll just have to buy more i suppose.

With lithium prices sky high why have lithium shares been dropping back, any ideas? I guess ZNWD may have been affected by the BCN planned distribution to BCN shareholders rather than just going to Ganfeng but that should just be a temporary effect as the intrinsic value here has not changed, rather it has increased if you consider the price of lithium. However EMH and SAV have also dropped back so there must be a wider factor to consider?

Erris gold resources are intending to rebrand as green glen minerals, and list on AIM , hopefully around November time...
