WH Ireland’s updated note on release of the interims three weeks ago summarised (bolding is mine):

“WEY is an educational group operating a range of fully interactive educational businesses, including the UK’s only true online secondary school. Interim results clearly demonstrate the momentum the business is now seeing under new leadership, following the sad passing away of the previous chairman. With a strategic review refocusing the business on its core brands of Interhigh and Academy21, it is pleasing to see H1 revenue of £2.7m, up 54.7% (organic c.35%). As a result, Wey reports an adjusted profit before tax of £124k (H1-18: £23k), which bodes well when set against our unchanged full year break even expectation. Although marketing spend is expected to increase in H2 (note new brand ambassador Colin Jackson, and pending radio advertising campaign), and there is a little revenue still to be booked for H2, we believe risk is clearly towards the upside with respect to 2019 estimates. Net cash at the end of the period stood at a very healthy £5.0m. Our fair value assessment (see note published 20/02/19) is set at 35p.”

Of passing interest given the current political climate, as it indicates the prospect of increased spending on secondary education outside of London, which might ripple out to WEY as the state will inevitably use WEY’s services in some forms to release bottlenecks in school and similar educational provision obligations:

It’s good that that the two newest directors have shown willing and bought in the market rather than rely on options at silly prices.

Mr Knowles has only gone and got another few shares see above RNS. Holding 216,862 shares or 0.17% of the company. Nice move.

Good spot. Hadn't noticed. Can't help think this has been hugely oversold. Distractions & one off costs behind it we should see a simplified business perform a lot better. Keep going mr knowles.

Futured, that can be said for a large number of small stocks lately as the markets are dull to bearish right now. You can see a lot of short term punters have dived out of here and others to punt on “hot stocks” elsewhere.

I am staying put here and letting the market catch up in its own time.

Out of steam after nearly doubling
Investors taking profits

By “investorsR21; you mean you. Based on the timing of your first “derampingR21; post (9.33am at the lows of the day), you were lucky to get above 8p on your sale.

Next stop 12p, to quote someone a few days back!

"chequered history"? Er? Clearly not!

Its been growing strongly every year since I dont know when.
Its got a great track record of growth.
Its what dot com is all about.

this is the ONLY quoted online secondary education company listed.
If you want to get into the sector this is the only way.

I hope you're right. I've been watching WEY on and off for a number of years. It has had a chequered history, its new business model is still in its early days and it is a small business that still has to prove its potential.

Finally, with the new online OfQual accredited scheme coming into play, the future prospect of WEY selling “Teaching Online” courses to a massive market of teachers, is in play. Once again, WEY has the headstart here. The more that online teaching is in demand, the more teachers will need to be taught since it will almost certainly be a mandatory requirement to gain the qualification.

Don’t forget also that WEY not only offers full time education, it also sells specific subjects to schools, or specific modules, or time limited chunks of education.

Separately, they have Academy21 which is geared more specifically to local authorities and charities that have need to buy short blocks of education for children excluded from school for particular individual reasons, be it behaviour, anxiety, bullying, disability and so on.

So, rather than focus on alternative societies, it is clear there are lots of gaps in the system that can be filled by tailored solutions and thereby solving many headaches encountered by under pressure organisations dealing with sensitive matters in need of solutions.
