ADW (online) operations in North America – still quite small – were up 43.46%. With a bit of imagination on social media, I reckon this could grow significantly.

WEB also “received a one-year ADW license approval from the West Virginia Racing Commission on 18 May 2021”; ie just prior to the year end.

With the Chairman stating, “I am also pleased to report that these positive trends have continued into the new financial year”.

Present fair value?

Strange - from the tribes supporting statementHorse racing represents one of the oldest forms of wagering, existing in California for almost a century. Over 17,000 licensed jobs are tied to the horse racing industry. According to the California Horse Racing Board, over $3 billion is wagered each year. This brings in millions of dollars in revenue to the state, to the world's premier equine chemistry laboratory, the KennethL. Maddy Equine Analytical Chemistry Laboratory at the University of California, Davis, and to local governments from sales taxes.And.... Permitting Approved Racetrack Operators to offer sports wagering as these operators are also highly regulated and are experienced in gaming operations. For approved I read licenced....as WEBIS are

All looks good Passy. The results often allude to possible match ups, but not sure I recall prior reference to "discussions". Surprised there was no reference to a bid for 63p per share.

Their proposal (Native American) is for tribe owned casinos and tribe owned racetracks (only 3 I think, plus De Mar, and which is the only 'fairground' racetrack that is part of their proposal).

The wider / original draft sports betting proposal for California was (I understand) proposing sports betting be granted to the operators of all racetracks - ie including Cal Expo - in California.

Can any of the regulars on here explain this for me?The wording of the only proposal currently guaranteed on the California ballot of 2022 states :On May 26, 2021, the Legalize Sports Betting on American Indian Lands Initiative qualified to appear on the ballot for November 8, 2022. The tribe-backed ballot initiative would legalize sports betting at American Indian gaming casinos and licensed racetracks; however, other state-licensed gaming establishments and professional sports team leagues would not be permitted to offer sports wagering.Webis statement today .... . It should be noted that we strongly oppose the current Native American proposition which is based on sports gaming only to be available via their own casinos and land.

"We welcome dialogue with credible software providers or operators in the sector who wish to assist our efforts. Should these discussions move forward, we will of course update shareholders in line with our regulatory obligations."

Is this the company telling us that we are already in discussions (the wording seems to imply this and I'd be surprised if we were not) ... interesting!

Results out and not too much of a delay.

Read very well - clearly and understandibly California is seen as the big one!

"This area is of course arguably the most interesting area of our business, with our strategic licences in California in both online and land-based gambling the priority to the company. Shareholders will have noted the increasing expansion in regulated sports wagering across the USA, and we remain well positioned in California, truly the land of opportunity, given likely regulation and the enormous market size in the State.

At time of writing, we are aware of at least four separate bills/propositions that could be voted upon in November 2022, in the form of a proposition (referendum). We are working closely with our advisors and contracted lobbyists in Sacramento to provide input into the political process. It should be noted that we strongly oppose the current Native American proposition which is based on sports gaming only to be available via their own casinos and land. This is obviously commercially highly unattractive to anyone who understands the sports betting business and will derive negligible revenue to the state. We much prefer several of the more progressive draft bills in the State, which provide credible opportunities for all licensed land based and mobile operators based in the State. We continue to work with regulators to make them understand these issues and drive forward an economically attractive option for the State and licence holders.

It should be noted we continue to also assess other opportunities outside California and will update shareholders if feasible business opportunities come to rise.

Finally, all observers will know that the rapid expansion of regulated gaming in the USA is the most exciting development in the sector globally. As a company we are very confident of our position in the USA and California in particular and our unique position. We welcome dialogue with credible software providers or operators in the sector who wish to assist our efforts. Should these discussions move forward, we will of course update shareholders in line with our regulatory obligations."

Re the contests / tournaments. It looks like the winners (collectively) pocket 90% of the total staked with W&W pocketing the remaining 10%. Can see there being massive interest in this; use your nous to play against 10, 50, 100's of others and get a return of, say, $500 off, say $5? WEB / W&W need to be hammering this on social media. Get them on-board to play the contests, and they'll likely place their own individual wagers with W&W. The more customers on the account, the more attractive this becomes to potential suitors regardless what happens with California.

They need to improve their social media*. W&W pocket some revenue from every (money) ‘contest’; – see previous post – but the amounts aren’t great. But the more customers on their database, the more attractive they become to a potential suitor – plus those customers are also then likely to separately wager with W&W.

Retweeting stuff isn’t going to do that. They need to get promoting their contests, how much can potentially be won from "X” small stake, welfare stuff from the money they generate, etc; similar to the national lottery.

*I had to enquire a few weeks back why they had not tweeted since 7 Nov 2021. It was only 10 days without a post but, similar to the AIM Rule 26, just a bit shoddy.

WEB are in a good place if any of the native Indian proposals are approved - racetracks and reservation casinos will be the winners. Card rooms and the likes of FLTR / DKNG / BetMGM the losers

Aye; it definitely won't be 'commercial' till 2023. The racetrack is key for me here; that, to me, gives them a high chance of their securing a 'sports book' license and which then opens up an entirely wider market.

California is the jewel in the crown of sports betting but it now looks like there may be four competing proposals going onto the November 2022 ballot. With the best will in the world there cannot be legislation in place before 2023 - and that assumes that the losers in the ballot accept their defeat gracefully and do not attempt drawn out legal redress. While the company statement is, technically, correct in that California could approve a sports betting measure by the end of 2022 in as much as one of the ballot proposals is accepted there will still be some way to go before the first bets are placed.

I sometimes try to get a feel of the number of players with W&W. Whilst this is not always the case, some of today's 'contests' look quite busy - and well above the 'based on (minimum) entrants'. Coupled with increased wagering / revs in H2, hopefully, bodes well.

Agree with earlier comments re the ‘results’, and slightly surprised by the share price action since. One thing from reviewing the earlier interims was this:

“Momentum continues to gather daily for regulated Sports Betting in numerous states, including California. At time of writing, the Board is confident that California will approve this measure no later than 2022, with many other major States actively operating by then. Conversely, the position in other jurisdictions for online gambling is becoming increasingly difficult, with significant regulatory headwinds facing operators exposed to Europe and the UK. As a result, there is significant interest in our USA licensed position as we outline our plans to maximise this position.”

You then have this from 26 Nov 2021: “UK MPs Call for Introduction of £2 Stake Limit for Online Betting”;

Can’t see this actually happening in the UK but won’t do any harm from a selling perspective.

Entirely off-topic, but a lengthy interview here with Jim Mellon from 14 April 2003. Interesting chap / life - albeit, only so far read about half of it - especially ‘President Eyadema’.

Just had a look at the unaudited figures released yesterday and comparing them against the half year ones from February. Feb figures show a net profit of $721,000 over six months.Full year released yesterday show net profit over the year of $824,000So in the last six months WEB's net profit was 824-721 = $103,000. Quite a reduction and certainly an element in the fall in share price. Since the company gave no clear reason for the profit drop (COVID related closures?) investors are either going to have to wait till full year commentary is included with the audited resultsHalf year figures in FebOr....a trading update to show the decline has been arrested

Not what any of us were expecting this week! That said, nothing has particularly changed - the results were pretty much as they predicted in the half-year report:

"Despite our positive first six months, as anticipated, our performance has slightly tapered off in the last few months. This is normal and expected. It is a factor of reduced content, poor weather and the unique constraints of Covid-19 which have impacted our racetrack performance. The operations at Cal Expo have been particularly difficult, but we are committed to live operations and ensuring a safe meeting and a form of income for all concerned.

In a more positive vein, we expect an upturn in performance in the Spring in 2021 as the weather improves and we promote the high quality domestic and international content for which we are licensed. As a result, we expect a steady trading pattern to year-end May 2021. We will keep shareholders appraised of performance, should this deviate from that anticipated."

All in all I'm happy to see the full year profit - what I'm not happy with is the level of communication ... nothing in the last 6 months and even the Aim Rule 26 page of the website has not been reviewed or updated since 30th April 2020.

Come on Webis - if we can't get the results out (through no fault of our own) let's at least get some sort of trading update!
