10/4/2008 08:53 | Still think that Burkinshaw was a crutch for Boothroyd, and to be honest I dont think Boothroyd has a clue about tactics. | fullupfool
18/2/2008 10:20 | Thats a good point about the ones we have sold - HB has hardly set Fulham alight this year although AY has proved to be a good buy for Villa. Still the price was decent considering he had an up and down season for us. I noticed EiRx managed a last ditch fund raising on friday, I hope they turn things around and don't have a similar thing next year, good luck with them. | dr biotech
17/2/2008 09:48 | P.S. Dr Bio, your comments on EiRx were appreciated a while back. I note that they got funding to 2009 after the close of play on Friday. Hopefully will see a share price recovery this week as share price at 0.03p was priced to go bust. | sicilian_kan
17/2/2008 09:46 | AB may have signed a few flops, but he has hardly spent any money. More importantly, he has never undersold a player and consistently gets good prices. Ashley Young, Marlon King and Hameur Bouazza may get Watford nearly £20m. That's a good deal. Also, there are lots of great managers who consistently sign flops, let's look at Alex Ferguson's record since 1998: Flops (17): Greening, Blomqvist, Bosnich, Fortune, Taibi, Veron, Carroll, Blanc, Forlan, Lopez, Bellion, Djemba-Djemba, Howard, Kleberson, Smith, Ji Sung, Cuszczak Passables (10): O'Shea, Silvestre, Barthez, Heinze, Saha, van der Sar, Carrick, Evra, Hargreaves, Anderson Successes (10): Stam, Yorke, Van Nistelrooy, Ferdinand, Ronaldo, Rooney, Mikel (financially), Tevez, Nani, Vidic | sicilian_kan
05/2/2008 00:37 | After a couple of good performances at Sheff Utd and at home to Wolves (in the league) we might be edging back on track - All the latest signings showed promise - Sadler has definitely caught the eye and is looking assured already, and Ainsworth looks talented. As for flops and successes in the transfer market only two comments. 1. Would like to see Rinaldi given a chance and 2. Siestes....Siestes.. | basso2
28/1/2008 14:22 | I still think that AB is the best we can hope for as manager - sure we are having a terrible run but it could be worse (Vialli anyone?) I thought Spring was OK - McAnuff has done alright but needs to improve - the others haven't had much of a chance so presumably aren't up to much. Siestes and Junior are also two laughable signings that got nowhere, though to be fair he also got Foster and Johnson on loan who were pretty good. | dr biotech
28/1/2008 13:12 | aye alex. Think John wont be ready for a few weeks ???, but why he didnt play 3 up front with Ellington, Henderson and King when he could bemuses me. Transfer record Boothroyd Flops :- Kabba, Jackson ( 36 yrs old ), Priskin ( Internationally good ) Proven :- King, Smith ( Welcome back ) To Be Proved :- Ellington, Poon, Saddler, Avinel, Francis, Williamson Have not included loans, please correct me if I have missed someone | fullupfool
28/1/2008 11:37 | I agree on Sadler....he looked like he should be a great replacement for Stewart.......what really worries me at the moment is the manager......I think the next few games will be crucial to see just what he can do after the King debacle. Any ideas why he doesn't play 3 up front....Ellington,J | alexacj
28/1/2008 00:40 | Graham Simpson says on the club website - £3m rising to £4m. Thats a good deal for Wigan, but will he get a game? Ellington had a positve game in the Wolves debacle as did Mat Sadler - the rest? oh dear. | basso2
26/1/2008 08:40 | Sporting Life says £4m Telegraph says £5m Lancashire Evening Post says £4.5m Take your pick. All seem decent enough in the circumstances. | sicilian_kan
26/1/2008 00:15 | Ellington should be given a run, and the John signing will probably be too late the FA Cup tie with Wolves, so Hendo should get the nod. Interesting looking at the BBC website - the fee for King was "undisclosed" - bet it was at the request of our board, not theirs - egg on face time if it was less than £5m. After all he seems to have passed the fitness test at the JJB so why not £5m? | basso2
25/1/2008 15:01 | Hmmm, Henderson, Ellington and John...... Who will be sub and who will start ... Surely Ellington will be in starting line up as he scored last game. | fullupfool
25/1/2008 14:39 | Looks like he is off to Wigan instead. | dr biotech
24/1/2008 16:30 | Fulham have paid for a striker, so looks like the Marlon deal is off. So what now, will he be motivated to play | fullupfool
23/1/2008 08:03 | Yep, word is that the knee will degenerate and he could be out of the game within 3 years. The club won't take a reduced fee or a pay as you play deal, so the player is in limbo. The local paper website says the club has indicated he has no future at Watford. Interesting to see if the club have a suitable insurance policy - ie one that will pay £5m or thereabouts. | basso2
19/1/2008 09:56 | Looks like he might not go or that the fee may be staggered/reduced. See the Times and Guardian today. | sicilian_kan
19/1/2008 09:21 | I don't think losing MK is a great loss - he hasn't looked particularly sharp or (perhaps more importantly) interested in the last few games. If we see him at the Vic again I think he could get a mixed reception - good player but not particularly loyal. Haven't heard much from AB about this either, he is going to lose the supporters a little over this one. I think the new centre back may be OK though. | dr biotech |
