Indeed so, although I'll be less interested in the factories (those are fairly easy) I'm more interested in how the retails sales are going.

For all that wallpaper is apparently on fire (not literally of course) sales in June were still well down, so hopefully they can tell us of a sharp bounce and we are away at the races (not literally of course).

Fremch Connections move to homewear seems to have done the share price no harm this morning....I sense the homewear market is doing great.

When does WGB tend to give trading updates or come out with autumn marketing campaigns?

I bought a few more on the dip and general news that retail homewear sector is doing well ( I suspect this trend is global)

From the TV interview Kingfishers Trading update (B&Q) stated that one of the strongest sales items (perhaps the strongest) in their impressive trading has been WALLPAPER....

Yes WALLPAPER is booming....

An interesting snippet from EVE beds trading update today that might also apply to WGB (eg strong homewares market):

"
May and June trading was ahead of the Board's
expectations and this momentum has continued into July, buoyed by a strong
homewares market,
"

I guess a retrace is to be expected. It lets others invest if they want to and keeps the market going.
We do need a bit of news I guess....
Or a nice marketing campaign for wallpapers etc...

Apparently the factories alone are worth more than the market cap....

kazoom: We started this thread for people interested in VALUE

( I did bang on about WGB quite a few times on the thread - sorry)

Thanks - I didn't read that.

I think there probably are some great NAV plays, but where NAV is substantially more than market cap. Although that plays out for WGB (especially given that some of the value of their "brands" is not reflected in the NAV) although it's not my reason for investing here.

When Market Cap is above NAV though I REALLY don't think it is the main story; that's just my opinion though. I do though think that VALUE (with survivability) is the thing in a market/economy like this.

Value has underperformed for so long, that it is about time.

It was an article in Sunday Times 2 weeks ago: Title "Bargain bucket stocks worth checking out" by Katherine Denham
Then recently we'e had XAAR, LOOP and EVE (all theoretically near net net) stocks doing OK... I think WGB also is liked for its NAV value -
(you could argue that BT is also a bargain bucket - anyway I bought a few just in case).

Hi net - I guess this is one that we are both holding then!

I am not at all convinced though by your view that Price to Book is the new "fad".

Always open to ideas though, so what makes you think that?

There is a definite trend towards buying shares with good NAV values compared to current Market Capitalisation.

I think it is time to ignore this, hold my shares and only look at it again when it gets above 70p. Nice gain so far!

From above
Walker Greenbank - Jonathan Winton, Fidelity UK Smaller Companies fund

'Walker Greenbank manufactures interior furnishings under the brands Sanderson, Morris & Co, Harlequin, Zoffany, Scion, Clarke & Clarke.

'The share price is down 50 per cent since the start of the year and the business has been significantly impacted by lockdown and concerns about the housing market.

'However, it has managed the crisis well, and has now reopened its factories. Whilst this year will be difficult, the business is well positioned once the economy emerges from recession, with a stable of attractive brands with UK and international potential.

'The new chief executive, Lisa Montague, has a strategy to improve brand engagement and transform the business, which is sensitive to the economy, but has lots of self-help and recovery potential.'

I can see the next push up might be a bit harder. But the principle is the same. Great company trading at about NAV.... In good position to take advantage of "lock-down" house decorating boom...

From Daily Telegraph:
"Enforced time at home has led to a DIY explosion around the country."

I do feel this should be bouncing around 55-65 range (eg cheaper than pre-Covid19) but high enough to take account of more NAV value and great brand names.

There is definitely a global market in selling "arts and craft" style clothing to Hipsters... And "arts and craft" courses and equipment (yes even home made wallpaper )....
The brand is not just wallpaper its a mass market movement..
Ideally suited to times of high unemployment, sewing bees, and Etsy market places.
