No point going over it all again - read a few of the posts towards the end of the old thread for the rationale.

Basically don't take one year's trough as being representative of the ongoing profitability, as you also wouldn't take last year's actuals as being indicative either.

i think todays announcement is a step towards sorting the income stream out cyber. Its a big mkt, yes there are a few players but nothing wrong with us getting our share too.

im personally just happy with some news flow atm.

Just looking in here after a tip on another thread. They have quite clearly stated they will be declaring an operating profit of just $11M = £7M in the results shortly. So (ignoring debt and admin expenses, exceptionals etc!) it is a current p/e of 14. Is that not quite a reasonably high p/e for a company that is struggling with weak demand, low margins and seems to be perhaps overly dependent on one large customer? Clearly if they can get back to previous profit levels then 100p is cheap, but how likely is that? Today's announcement is certainly positive in the long term I suppose, as well as the director buys a while ago.

Thanks for any comments from you LTHs.

I'm guessing the sales division are predominantly California based so RNS coincides with press releases in that time zone?

Should be some great margins on these optical interconnects.

I wonder why they issued this RNS after hours as it could be a game changer for the company.

Superb rns, the optical market is set to go exponential, one of the reasons for those director buys imo, also noted a recent upgrade from investec which demonstrates confidence, that rns should underline it.

Hurrah for the hammer reversal stick, even though I don't know what that is.

Nice little after-hours RNS. Prelims on 28 May.

And to think I was getting bored with this share.

Might have been nice if they had reported some sales though - at the moment, it's a cost.

But a good one, hopefully, and a timing issue...

Volex launches new Active Optical Cable Products

Volex plc, the global provider of electrical, digital and optical connections is announcing its new QSFP+ active optical cable (AOC) product family for high performance computing and data centre applications. These products use our patented optical coupling and expanded beam technology, delivering the most robust products in the market today with improved signaling tolerances and reduced sensitivity to temperature and vibration.

"There is an increasing need for more bandwidth and AOCs are the best solution for delivering the high speed data transfers required for big data analytics, cloud computing environments, and increasing loads from the explosion in mobile data. The AOC market represents a multi-billion dollar opportunity over the next several years. Volex is now able to offer a complete range of interconnect products to customers building out data centres and high performance computing clusters," said Roger Wendelken, SVP Marketing and Sales.

Ray Walsh, Volex CEO stated: "Our data centre and telecommunications customers have been asking for a cost-effective high speed optical solution to replace legacy copper interconnects. We are excited to launch our new patented and innovative AOC product line."

The excitement builds:

Volex plc, the global provider of electrical, digital and optical connections, today confirms that the preliminary announcement of its annual results will be released on Tuesday, 28 May 2013.

Being one of life's optimists, I'm hugely encouraged by that, as it suggests that they still expect to be in business on 28th May...

;-)

Still too soon to claim any kind of permanent escape from the downtrend, and as noted earlier, it looks set to make a decisive move one way or the other around results day, judging form the descending triangle point, but that's now four days above the down trend, which I suppose doesn't hurt.
