yep, forget kevlar, that's a market worth tens of billions right there - for personal wear but also probably on military vehicles?

Wonder material' that is as flexible as tin foil but becomes harder than a diamond when it's hit by a bullet could lead to ultra-light body armour

even iwilllosemyshirt couldn't lose his shirt on VRS - but whether he does or not he's now safely on the filtered list...

A warm welcome to our one-succinct-posting-a-year troll.

How long did you take to think that up? Your two orbiting brain cells finally found each other?

You're correct; that was holding shares outside an ISA, which I should have made clear.

However, I have no financial qualifications - just an average punter - so professional advice is essential.

I thought that if you hold this share (vrs) in a stock's and shares ISA there would be no problem on future gains no matter how large.

Although this may not apply for CGT declarations (due 31st January 2018 for 2016/17 tax year?)there's a useful article from the FinTimes on "Exploring various tax advantages of AIM" here: which is part of their Guide to the Alternative Investment Market ( )

One section, on VCTs, was particularly interesting for long-term investors (see below). Researching VCTs and Versarien produced Herald Investment Trust. I may be barking up the wrong tree, but is anyone here clued-up on VCTs as an option with investing in Versarien? (Private messages welcome).

Discussion of EIS and IHT looks useful as well.

As always, use a professional adviser if you're not clued up.

The section on VCTs:
For example, investments in new subscriptions to Aim venture capital trusts (VCTs) will benefit from 30 per cent income tax relief, as well as ongoing capital gains tax and income tax relief.

To be approved by HMRC as a VCT, the investment vehicle must, after three years, be at least 70 per cent fully invested in qualifying unquoted trading companies, which include Aim stocks.

According to HMRC, investments in VCTs of up to £200,000 in a tax year mean individual investors will get 30 per cent initial income tax relief on the amount invested (up to £200,000) in new ordinary shares issued by VCTs, as long as they hold the shares for five years.

They will also receive a tax exemption on dividends and will benefit from no CGT on disposal of shares in the VCT.

The investor does not need to be a resident of the UK in order to benefit, but he or she must be a UK taxpayer.

More Neill Ricketts Retweeted Iain Gray

I assume that Iain is:

bauchsapt - that tweet from NR was to me, and that's my reading of it.

I think it's a simple as this: he'll sign as many deals as he can as quickly as he can - but if the other side won't sign to VRS/NR's (or our!) timescales, there's not too much he can do...

A Happy Christmas and a PROSPEROUS New Year to all VRS holders, and that includes you Stig, TPI and all other subversive elements in the hope that the milk of human kindness will flow a bit more freely in your veins in 2018.And to you Neill, and the whole team at Versarien, thank you so much for all your hard work this year, thus greatly enriching many of the poverty-stricken PIs who inhabit this great board. Finally to SuperG for all the great background info which has sustained us through the ups and downs this year.

Just listening to Radio 4 discussing problems of plastic waste/recycling.

Any thoughts on the recycling characteristics of graphene-enhanced packaging?

Thanks for your expertise & opinions Superg1 and the other links guys. Some of the UoM stuff I have read already. In a way I have invested £180k of my future in graphene in that I bought a house here in Manchester! Couldn't've afforded Chelmsford! :-) Merry Festivus, droogs!
