Slightly different pull on the graphene watch story. Still no mention of VRS as the supplier, but it all ties up via UOM. Significantly, this article says graphene was also added to the rubber strap. Is this new? I know that graphite can strengthen bike tyres.

Having looked abit deeper and having stumbled across something weeks back (which now makes sense)I'm with you. Imo it's highly likely the supplier is VRS.

I'm guessing if it's them the smaller order was for the watches and the larger order part of the bigger picture on carbon fibre.

Prof Robert Young commented strongly on the VRS Carbon fibre (in the rns) trials and then he appears in the Mclaren video on the same topic.

Add in other bits and I'd be surprised if it isn't VRS.

2+2=5

That is where the 100k order was destined for then?

Makes you wonder if Neill is going to announce some more collaborations in the carbon fibre sector, or just straight supply of GNP's to automotive?

Yep

It could well explain why they were happy happy to take them at 19p rather than cash.

As far as I'm concerned VRS have the best GNPs out there so naturally if Mclaren want some then VRS in theory should be the port of call.

Just a day ago there was squiff all on the web re Mclaren having any link to graphene.

The media as yet don't seem to have realised Mclaren just said they are going to use graphene in F1 cars.

The evidence is in post 1153 Sherlock lol, just need VRS to tell us it is so!

Mates rates won't come into play Lucky, only the best will do for Mclaren.

I've no idea re this. On hunting around this has come up as of about 3 hours ago, nothing really official out there. No one talking about graphene in the few links out there as in the name but it happens to be a Mclaren/Honda.

Here is a third company involved (found in another link). Their history links to F1.

In the found link it also says.

"McLaren Technology Group and McLaren-Honda, which are currently working on integrating graphene into their Grand Prix cars, made it possible for us to consider this material as a means to signicantly low the density of our carbon composite while increasing its resistance."

"These various applications of graphene represent significant technical advances that are of capital importance for both Richard Mille and McLaren-Honda."

Aha

1 minute 17 seconds.

He talks about the graphene in the watch then says.

"Mclaren are streamlining their chassis with it as we speak"

I thought this line was worthy of separation to point out why I like VRS and why potentially it could fly as I believe they currently have the highest quality few layer GNP production in the world.

"In engineering, we often talk about improvements in terms of fractions of a per cent; to suddenly introduce improvements of this order is incredible,"

It's something I have mentioned before many times and it's why investors imo need to tune in sharpish before the wider market realises Graphene is no fantasy material hyped up it actually does what they claimed IF the right graphene or GNPs are used.

That is no me or some PI or even the CEO saying such gains are unheard of or transformational. It's the MCLAREN TECHNOLOGY GROUP group saying so.

So who is the supplier??? Tome to do some digging.

What a great graphene advert.

I had searched through the F1 brands before and found absolutely no trace of any mention of graphene at all.

Mclaren have just said, "Hey guys we have made a massive move on strong light weight composites"

Good find BTW.

Streuth whose graphene is that, if you want anyone to chose your product then that's the one Mclaren. It's not about price with them it's about performance.

What a great advert that would be for whoever supplied the GNPs. You simply can't stick a price on the value of that.

Picking up on a comment in that link and comments in other news on the same topic.

“The results from this project have shown exactly why graphene is perfect for delivering improvements where high-performance materials are necessary and is a key step forward into developing more widespread applications including automotive and aerospace.”

"the casing of the watch has withstood tremendous shock damage and survived unscathed in tests."

Mclaren Honda site

Jonathan Neale, Chief Operating Officer, McLaren Technology Group, added:

“While Formula 1’s technical regulations prohibit the exploitation of some nano-materials for legitimate cost reasons, the development of materials, such as the graphene family of structures, provide an exciting and increasingly cost-effective solution to some of the sport’s most demanding challenges."

“McLaren, Richard Mille, and The University of Manchester’s National Graphene Institute are all learning and working together; we’re looking at a number of emerging technologies, including the 3D printing of carbon-fibre, nanotechnology and surface-coating technology.

“We think the properties of graphene are pretty mind-blowing: some of the mechanical properties of graphene-enhanced composites can be improved by double-digit percentages compared to regular carbon-fibre composites. In engineering, we often talk about improvements in terms of fractions of a per cent; to suddenly introduce improvements of this order is incredible, but it gives you a very clear perspective on just how much we’re discovering about the properties of graphene, and just how much it’s re-defining our existing understanding of materials science.”

Handy: try capitalising some of the HTTP to make the link readable.

I'm surprised there was no mention of VRS in this collaboration, especially given Mr Ricketts known addiction to Formula 1!

Neill Ricketts will be presenting at the Shares Mag investor evening on Feb 9th at the Novatel (a minutes walk from Tower Hill tube).

The Shares Mag events are free to attend, but you need to register in advance. There is generally plenty of time after the meeting to talk to the presenters (and other attendees) over drinks and light refreshments. The slide sets and video recordings of the presentations (including Q&As) are normally available at the Shares Mag web site a few days later.

Hopefully they will get a few more companies to attend (only Versarien and Sound Energy have signed up so far), but I intend go along anyway.

They could sell down to zero whoch is vrs business terms is pretty much irrelevant.

I used to think silly sods re some shares for both buying and selling by funds. The fact is such positions are miniscule to them.

Apologies sg I thought the triggers were 5% then 3%. The next trigger would be 4% then on that basis so declaration if they drop around 1m shares if they're still selling.
Agree on the revenue rate.

Serratia

They should have to disclose every 1% move above and including 3% if it's UK

If offshore 5% and 10% are the triggers to notify with no other notification points.

On that topic I'm not bothered what they do. As it stands I believe in the business and prospects and have no intent of selling at 20p, 30p or higher. If they take it lower then with such a belief I'll add. While we look at funds exiting there are also funds looking to add when they think the circs are right.

Revenue is clearly going to be materially up due to adding AAC with clear hints that Carbide has turned and as we know 2D tech is now gaining traction. The revenue rate now should be somewhere between £8m to £10m PA.
