11/8/2019 17:54 | Yes they "simply" disproved the theory that it is unstable in single layer form.. Ok not a big deal then :) He may not have theorised the existence of graphene but he did demonstrate and prove its physical existence. So in a way he did discover graphene as a real-world stable compound; and in doing so started the whole worldwide graphene rush. (I get your point btw but I didn't like the use of "simply" in your sentence, although it was a relatively "simple" experiment that led to the "discovery", very similar in a way to the discovery of quasicrystals in the 1980's that was later awarded the 2011 Nobel Prize in Chemistry actually). To sum up, I would argue that yes, Geim et al. did discover graphene. | mryl

11/8/2019 16:37 | Just for the record, Geim didn't discover graphene. It's theoretical existence had been known about for over 100 years. It was widely beleived that it wouldn't be stable in single layer form. Geim and co simply disproved that theory by managing to isolate it. | alfie4048
11/8/2019 14:32 | So back to graphene. Old news but woundn't it be amazing if for some bizarre reason they added our graphene hxxp://www.globalcon To me this highlights the potential scale of the graphene revoluton in one application. | landereo

11/8/2019 14:14 | Sorry teepee....even the discoverer of Graphene gets to talk politics on here. Then again he's not British and realises that politics invests all our lives including trying to make money investing in VRS. Neill doesn't talk about it because he is caught in a difficult position and dare not annoy anyone. | pshevlin |
