26/8/2018 23:06 | Thanks nemo, once I've got a response from skylite, if it's basically favorable, I'll re-post my post AGM get together thoughts again early next week. Today they got overtaken/swamped by tips on SIP's and ISA's. Cheers - Spike | ![]() spike_1
26/8/2018 21:56 | I see a lot of people talking about SIPs IHT etc. Why not consider moving to the IOM tax a lot simpler. The Isle of Man does not have any capital gains tax, wealth tax or inheritance tax. Income tax is levied at a rate of 10% on the first £10,500 of taxable income and 20% on the rest. A friend lives there says you just need to get off the island now and again somewhere warmer! | ![]() laginaneil
26/8/2018 21:19 | Spike Only just seen the latest postings but me and 'er indoors would be up for a post AGM get together like you suggest. | ![]() nemo19

26/8/2018 20:14 | Chimp ref the books. I started in Jan too and have read quite a few to build knowledge and understanding. The books mentioned before might be a bit advance so if your looking for a more basic understanding... I found ‘Shares made simple’ by Rodney Hobson good for learning the basics of how the stock market works, nomads, types of shares etc. Filled in a few gaps for me in all the other books which tend to go more down the strategy route. Investing is different to trading so pick your books wisely. Listen to the first 10 podcasts of Rule Breaking investing by Motley fool too for more base level understanding although ignore their recommendations particularly for VRS despite being a classic ‘rule breaker’ | ![]() mjatkin82
26/8/2018 20:04 | Couldn't agree more CS...what time is it acceptable for a 55 yr old to go to bed..? | ![]() woodpeckers
26/8/2018 19:48 | The Chairman of the Executive Board is Ken Teo, Aixtron Limited, United Kingdom | ![]() 20pc
26/8/2018 19:46 | There's only one downside to being invested in VRS: wishing away the bank holiday weekend (in fact *any* weekend) in anticipation of the new week and what this amazing company will deliver next.Korea *and* America in the same week. I'm still slightly stunned TBH.Stun easy, Norwegian Blues... | ![]() club sandwich
26/8/2018 19:33 | Thank you for all that info guys, much appreciated. | ![]() woodpeckers

26/8/2018 18:48 | Sorry, additionally the gifts must be regular | ![]() amid
26/8/2018 18:46 | Melf is correct. Gifts can be any amount as long as they are out of surplus income AND you maintain your normal lifestyle. You should be aware however that when completing the Inheritance Tax forms when a donor dies, that the Revenue has specific forms that must be completed and these require a breakdown of expenditure and income for the last 7 years to prove that the gifts were out of surplus income etc. | ![]() amid
26/8/2018 18:45 | Probably and best way to think about SIPPs and ISAs is:ISAs can only be filled by amounts that have been taxed already and then there is no tax when you later make profits and take money out. With SIPPs you get the original tax back (or don't pay if paid straight from an employer) when you put the money in but are taxed when you take money out. Often attractive if earning 40/45% tax bracket. The typical situation is also that you may be in a lower tax bracket when you retire. So very much a question of a personal situation as to which is best and something good to get to grips with or seek advice. | ![]() redstone64
26/8/2018 18:26 | Absolutely correct....you are allowed to make gifts out of the income you don't require to live on annually. A lot of people don't realise this and a lot of accountants don't know this either...believe me!! | ![]() melf |
