21/7/2018 19:26 | Money Laundering regs; mmmm ; they get me annoyed; my bookkeeper friend has to pay 120 quid to register as a self employed bookkeeper with hmrc purely to indicate that they are aware of where clients money comes from. No benefit to the bookkeepers but an indirect tax on them (and solicitors etc) | janeann
21/7/2018 16:41 | maynardpaton.com/cat says it all about TSTL, red. My view - slow advance in the US. 4.4% of Stairway, it has to grow on its own, the little tinker. apad😎 | apad
21/7/2018 14:53 | Money laundering regulations on the big island APAD. Not like where you live I suppose. Solicitors and estate agents need to know you aren't a gangster innit. | melton john
21/7/2018 09:51 | More often than not I have noticed a magnetic pull back towards a placing price and this placing is not going into the companies coffers. could be the market harmonising (and in a smaller way, punishing) with the 285p paid and excepted by the directors. just guessing :) | thelongandtheshortandthetall
21/7/2018 08:28 | Where are we at with Tstl at present? Share price a bit off the top. red | redartbmud
21/7/2018 08:18 | APAD Yes Rsw will be interesting. The share price has been very buoyant of late, suggesting results will be at the top of forecasts. Any slippage will see a brutal markdown, maybe exacerbated by the poor liquidity. They talked up healthcare in May, but then they always do!! Additive machines should be a driver of profits, by now, as they have put a lot of effort into their method of marketing in the last 12 months or so. Traction!! Metrology, the traditional core business, was very strong the last time they reported. It remains they biggest part of the business. Wonder how well they have fared in China. They hold their shareholder/investor day in May, so the next visit is likely to be the AGM in late October. The current share price is well above broker consensus and latest recommendations are sell or reduce!! red | redartbmud
21/7/2018 07:48 | Blimey, MJ. Who want's the proof? I've got some cash on Monday and was going to increase DOTD, attrader. Missed the boat I reckon. Musing about increasing QTX, nice little, well-managed company with a decent yield. Interims next week. NTQ is a survivor and my sort of company. The rocket ships ARC/ZOO have too much of a vocal following. Some weakness ahead of FEVR interims on Tuesday. I expect some weakness after the interims - I always do, and I am always wrong. Renishaw FY on thursday, red. I reckon they will be strong because of £ weakness. I wonder if additive machines are selling and expect healthcare to be useless as usual. I presume you will be going to visit when they do an open day. Important week for me - first and fifth biggest holdings - gulp! | apad
20/7/2018 23:24 | I've been looking for a bungalow to down size and thought my problems were over when I found one. Not so, bungalows cost substantially more and not only do I have to prove I have the cash to pay the difference but explain the source of it. This means holding on to bank statements and keeping records as you hop from one account to another to secure an extra %point of interest. I seems you are presumed guilty until you prove that savings are from honest toil so keep records for three years. | melton john
20/7/2018 23:15 | The Sym news item said that the d2w technology does not totally break down the plastic. It breaks the long polymer chains and produces small pieces but these contribute to the build-up of microparticles in the oceans. I know from experience that a carrier bag turns to plastic snowflakes but these hang around for a long time. | melton john
20/7/2018 14:08 | DOTD climbing back up ... I have a small holding but I don't have a conviction to increase it .. | attrader
20/7/2018 11:38 | I have a position in BIOM in similar sector but it's certainly a punt. Valuation though more sensible. Track record of increasing cashflow gives some confidence although management don't own much which is a big negative. I bought a very small position in SOS at 16p a while back and it's now doubled. Growth seems very high but I'm not overly confident for various reasons. Will hold now and see how it pans out. | hydrus
20/7/2018 11:19 | SYM looks like a good way to lose money I think. Growth not that great, extremely poor publicity now and very high valuation. Main issue though is whether their tech is even viable. | hydrus
20/7/2018 09:39 | I'm a holder - I think it went up way to fast plus the 4th franchise was expected to be announced and it hasn't been - good support at around a tenner | panic investor
20/7/2018 09:34 | We have cultivated the throw away society. Now we are throwing things away, there is no where to throw them. Great long term planning by the great and the wise:-( red | redartbmud
20/7/2018 09:19 | I don't think an additive to a plastic is the answer, the world needs a new material | big7ime
20/7/2018 09:16 | So it was al101uk! Just that "Venture Life (VLG)" at the top of the page that tricked me ;-) Never mind... | lauders
20/7/2018 08:57 | From the final results: Market and Operational Highlights · d2w - oxo-biodegradable plastic. Increasing regulatory support with 11 governments globally now having mandated that certain plastic products contain oxo-biodegradable additives · Growing range of d2p products for health, hygiene, food protection and other applications · Collaboration agreement and strategic investment in Eranova, a developer of bioplastic material using algae. The Board consider bioplastics to be a complementary technology to d2w, in recognition that governments will likely favour a suite of technologies to address the issue of plastic leaking into the open environment. The investment would be funded from existing resources · Entered into a memorandum of understanding to acquire one of Symphony's existing European distributors. Whilst there can be no guarantee that the acquisition will happen, if it did proceed it would provide Symphony with €2.5 million of revenues primarily into the French major retail market. This investment would also be funded from existing resources Introduction The Group's revenues to date have principally been derived from d2w oxo-biodegradable plastic technology which is targeted to treat short-life plastics which include, but are not limited to, shopping bags, bin liners, diapers, coffee capsules, drinking straws, agricultural and food packaging films. However, our d2p suite of technologies are also gaining commercial traction and the collaboration and strategic investment in Eranova will provide another complementary technology, in the form of bioplastics. d2w technology - Oxo-biodegradable plastic Protecting the environment is one of the most important everyday issues at the present time. Affecting nearly everyone is the leakage of plastic into the open environment which can be harmful, as reported by programmes like Blue Planet. This is caused by plastics that escape the normal collection systems for reuse or recycling. Symphony's d2w oxo-biodegradable additive technology is a non-disruptive, low cost solution (which we market as an "insurance policy") to pre-treat plastics with a small addition of d2w during the production process. Simply put, this drop-in pre-treatment modifies the plastic so that if it escapes collection for re-use, recycling, incineration or landfill, then it will rapidly degrade in the open environment into a non-plastic material, with similar natural properties to a leaf. The biodegradation process will then follow, so as to recycle the material back into nature. Shopping bags and bread bags made with d2w technology have the best life cycle analysis hxxp://www.biodeg.or Maybe it doen't do exactly what it says on the tin and they aren't getting the orders. red | redartbmud
20/7/2018 08:56 | Lauders, Twas always a value thread... Post #1 "Whilst Warren Buffett is widely thought of as a value investor in the mold of his mentor Ben Graham, he is on record in stating that his strategy also borrows from the investment philosophy of Phil A. Fisher who was more concerned with finding companies that were set to enjoy strong growth - so called 'bonanza stocks'. I think it is wise to combine the two strategies. The value approach will hopefully mean that we are not overpaying for stocks, but the growth criteria means that we are filtering out those apparent value companies that in actuality are cheap because they are not going anywhere or are going backwards." | al101uk
20/7/2018 08:48 | sold my holding this morning. The debt was always an issue and I new that when I made my investment. I was hopeful that they could generate enough cash flow to pay off the debt given they've good operational gearing. Nevertheless despite the oversubscribed placing that's too significant a dilution to recover in this years earnings imo. Todays acquisition is dressed up and just a cover for reducing the debt with an additional move to improve what was a weak balance sheet. From recollection in previous interviews JR has been positive about not needing to make a placing so I'm not impressed. It seems to me they may have working capital issues in the short term. Now on my watch list, I can always revisit if my assessment is incorrect. woody | woodcutter
20/7/2018 08:16 | SYM falling heavily today. Apparently the news had something about its tech? | big7ime
20/7/2018 08:06 | I see the company that this board was set-up for originally issued an RNS today: Does anyone here actually hold/follow them? Hoping for some drilling news at AMER soon. The sooner they announce a spud the better. Will hopefully mark a change in sentiment/direction! | lauders
19/7/2018 23:26 | If in doubt... do nothing! That's my advice... | thetrophyman
19/7/2018 21:25 | Homebrew I suspect that's right for those of us who don't have any special insights into future title successes. I'm not a fan of lumpy revenue as hard to pinpoint what the valuation actually is. | hydrus
19/7/2018 21:22 | Nice, as thelong pointed out, can queries in quotation marks only match exactly - that's the way querying by exact phrase can be done in search engines (Google et al). | cbootle |
