14/12/2017 10:19 | Cheers APAD.. Non cyclical stalwart idea is good.. Looking froward to crunching new year folios. Do we want to allow foreign stocks for next years 'comparison' ? | attrader
14/12/2017 10:05 | No emoji for sarcasm, red, so you have to add 'Yeah Right' :-) My swap from SDX into BOO is amusing as both are up. Averaging down ZOO looks to be a reasonably decent decision. Must feed the other puppy (IDEA) next time. AMS rns - no surprises in either direction. FARN is going to talk to the tintins. Our 'comparison' (how about that for a name to avoid game addicts?) nominally ends on the 22nd at 12:50. I shall probably end it at close of play the day before to avoid any peculiar end-of-term effects. Then I hand the baton over to attrader and put together a Stalwarts and a Winners portfolio (from the 2017 comparison) to run on for a year. I could do with a few more stalwarts suggestions, say consistent 5 or 10 year performances. Not cyclicals? I'm open to suggestions - some would say a rare event :-) apad | apad
14/12/2017 08:00 | APAD Purp, I was being a little sarcastic. Jefferies is still sceptical about the valuation being applied to online estate agent Purplebricks (PURP), whose shares have risen 156% this year. Analyst Anthony Codling said while interim results released yesterday looked ‘impressive ‘Once again, we find that Purplebricks continues to speak in riddles – “we sold and completed £4.6 billion of property with a further £3.8 billion in the pipeline”. However, we cannot tell how many homes that equates to,’ he said. ‘And that is the one thing we think potential customers should be asking: “If I pay you more than £1,000 what are the chances that you sell my home and how close will you get to the asking price.’ Codling has an ‘underperform& ‘Purplebricks is currently priced for perfection, yet we believe this early stage disruptor has yet to prove the efficacy of its business model,’ he said. ‘Should the model stumble, the share price may do likewise.’ A tintin that speaks my voice. red | redartbmud
14/12/2017 03:14 | @apad, thanks for "Read the cash flow statement and history of small companies carefully. Can they survive bad times?" And "small caps can become virtually unsellable in a bear market (I don't mean a crash)". | ashehzi
13/12/2017 22:57 | Couldn't agree more about planes. Ryan air are actually overtly rude sometimes... even when im being very nice. Went on a sleeper boat between copenhagen and oslo last thursday Would have been wonderful but the going was a bit to choppy to ignore (esp with a lingering hangover). Trains are my favourite. | thelongandtheshortandthetall
13/12/2017 22:10 | uk roads; too many cars for too little space, and too much speed. Amazed there aren't a lot more accidents than there actually are. BOO - will be interesting to see; must be safer places at present tho? Pleased you like ztf! (paid 2.67 for some in Jan this year; very impressed) | janeann
13/12/2017 20:26 | I think that brands might fail, janeann, but the consumer society will keep on consuming. . I don't think BOO weakness can be explained by macro issues - I take the view that profits are being taken by nervous PIs and the effect is exacerbated by ATs. I ought to be worried, but I'm not! I've always liked ZTF - not at all sure why I've never owned it :-) Travelling by boat, tlst. Hate airports and the pantomime they put people through. ashehzi. Roulette wheel stocks such as your IMM and my FARN are independent of ordinary market forces. Other small caps can become virtually unsellable in a bear market (I don't mean a crash) so beware tiddler companies with debt and a dependency on customers buying special technology. Read the cash flow statement and history of small companies carefully. Can they survive bad times? FWIW. PURP, red! Not like you to don the rose-tinted optical aids :-) BREE - I don't know enough about the cyclical nature of its market to make sensible decisions. It's one of my many blind spots. Take your point about the management. CPC doesn't want to drop through the placement price! Back on The Rock. Terrified by how UK drivers drive in the rain (3000 deaths a year caused by drivers not taking the rain into account!). I worked out that avoiding the outside lane is the safest thing one can do. Three drivers in front and outside of me thought they were going to work on the M27 until they ran into each other :-( apad | apad
13/12/2017 15:39 | MG - But many get eaten by the deer before they grow tall - Looks as though this may be one of those that fail to mature - All imo etc Best wishes to you and yours for Christmas if you do not visit thread before then !! | pugugly
13/12/2017 08:29 | Time to get into Bitcoin? red | redartbmud
13/12/2017 08:26 | APAD Bree: Today's statement shows how they are reacting to the acquisition of Hope and adjusting the assets to better fit the strategic business model. Good proactive management. red | redartbmud
13/12/2017 08:21 | Anyone in Purp? Much to my amazement, it looks like they may be building a sustainable business. the next Fevr? Hmmm..... Water regulator all over the media like a rash this morning. Was yesterday's bounce, in water shares, mere coincidence? Cynical from Carlisle. red | redartbmud
13/12/2017 08:06 | Thought this worth sharing ; big mark up; ZTF - Zotefoams today announces that it has entered into a strategic partnership with Nike to develop footwear technology and supply materials for the global footwear, apparel and equipment company. Zotefoams, a leader in cellular material technology, will supply high-performance foam materials exclusively to Nike, within the footwear industry. The foams, which are designed for footwear, can be formulated to specific customer needs and are superior in performance, consistency, quality and purity to foams produced by other methods. Through the partnership, Zotefoams will work exclusively with Nike to develop and manufacture foam innovations to bring to market high-performance athletic product. | janeann
12/12/2017 22:26 | Dairy farmers in the family! feel quite strongly about it. ps ash doubt there will be another year when competition entries result in such a high overall average. | janeann
12/12/2017 22:22 | Janeann Yes wow! Brilliant point, milk is cheaper. Another addition to my mad world list. :) | thelongandtheshortandthetall
12/12/2017 22:21 | No, never was like that. Yes, i see him posting and responding on few of these but never in vrs, imm, fenr, caml. So short answer is no. I do read many online websites and i use my own stock scanner. But yes, more than one person can have overlaps and i respect gentlemen who care to respond in positive manner. I did have many others like iomart, btg, eve, ubm, asm, choo etc. But not at the moment. Plus, i started this year, so a long way to go. | ashehzi
12/12/2017 22:18 | Purp interims tomorrow. Good luck to holders. No skin in this game myself. red | redartbmud
12/12/2017 22:11 | tltst - could agree more; crazy. and especially when milk is cheaper. | janeann
12/12/2017 22:08 | ashehzi - interesting - a lot of stocks bambboo2 talks about. I suspect you have read his posts | janeann
12/12/2017 21:22 | My portfolio contains caml, fdev, kws, vrs, imm, fenr, prsm, tap, Please feel free to comment. I'm learning... | ashehzi
12/12/2017 21:13 | We live in a throw away world sadly. We import water from france and further beyond. Crazy world really. Protestors going mad over one thing or another... but must have the new phone regardless of the workers conditions and be garbed in some latest rag. Moan moan over. Met some wonderful people whilst in limbo land over the last few days.. happy home on th sofa now though. | thelongandtheshortandthetall
12/12/2017 21:07 | Apad. You might be on the same plane as a girl my wife an i met in oslo. 3days in and around oslo airport due to the snow at stanstead. Hope you get away alright. | thelongandtheshortandthetall
12/12/2017 19:46 | I see you're fighting back apad with big rises on ams and bvxp today. Boo - at what point does the considerable and probably unnecessary spending on throw away clothes by the younger generation diminish - especially if the link between microfibre pollution and clothing gathers momentum (blue planet - I suspect you watch it). If so Boo could be hit? Looking for a reason for the weakness? . | janeann
12/12/2017 19:14 | BTW I specialise in negatives, ashehzi :-) BOO - looked at the trades. As well as the AT trades there seems to be a lot of PIs selling small amounts. Something of a stampede. Still can't understand the driver. apad ps Bloody cold here. Back on The Rock tomorrow - Condor willing. | apad
12/12/2017 14:14 | FWIW Not my sort of company, ash. Basically it is doing boring subcontracting for the big boys. However much it bigs up the tech element of composites it is a machine shop. As such it will always be subject to pricing pressure from its customers. apad | apad
12/12/2017 09:23 | Has anyone done research on Velocity Composites (VEL)? I've been keeping an eye since its IPO in May 2017 but good to listen from long termers. | ashehzi |
