There could also be a range of Amazons, in principle, Hydrus.

The supremely clever thing that Amazon did was not to increase prices in order to increase profits. This is what all successful shops did before.
If you increase prices you let competitors into the gap.
Amazon didn't do this, so they have shut the door to competition.
Special case, I believe.

CNBC had a piece on a new real estate initiative a few days ago. I remember thinking that PURP investors should all watch it.
They just will not crack the states. No chance, nada. It's a polyglot society - two nations divided by a common language.

Just watched the watchdog piece on PurpleBricks. If that's all they can find on the company then there is nothing to worry about! Main worry is the US - its s certainly different market so will be tough to crack.

Possibly APAD although suspect there may well be a range of online clothes shops in future. I do think BOO has something special though.

They were businesses posing an existential threat to the status quo, Hydrus.
BOO & ASOS are similar I guess.
Maybe it's the idea of a "moat" writ large?

Just looking at RIghtmove. What an extraordinary business. The margin, ROE, consistent EPS and dividend growth. When I look back, RMV and AMZN were so obviously phenomenal businesses that I used all the time yet I didn't invest. Got me thinking whether there are equivalents now. Can't think of any immediately.

Lauders,
I missed selling SOU at 60p so decided to wait for the news-flow to pick up from September onwards.
I'll probably sell on the Better to Journey than Arrive principle.
I was very early into SOU so the percentage profit at one point was massive :-)

SDX - my holding is small so I haven't really been following it that much, and I can't stand visiting the boards so I go off Malcy.

I did think a 5k ave saving was over the top, the last time I sold with trad agent I negotiated 0.5%
Anyone paying much more is stupid, it doesn't matter which agent you're with it's all on right move anyway.

Snap, I thought that myself this afternoon Hydrus re disgruntled est agents, lol

I do believe PURP will be successful, it's only the current val that puts me off, it prob shouldn't but I always get caught in the value trap. I watch with interest.

Not sure if they'll be successful in US hope they are though. Mind you if the current real estate agents charge that much they should easily take business from them

I sold a prop last yr using PB and it was absolutely fine, an agent still came and gave similar valuation (was actually higher than trad agent) and higher than I was expecting, so put it up and if sold no worries.

Can't understand anyone that still believes trad agent earns their money.

Anyway, good luck with your stake.

I attempted to wade through the cesspit that is the PURP board on ADVFN. I get the feeling that some of the negative posters on that cesspit board are disgruntled Estate Agents. When I used them (sold my house in 48hrs at highest valuation from 3 EAs) noticed that every estate agent told us how terrible they were. It was so transparent what they were doing it was amusing. Online/hybrid EAs are an existential threat to traditional EAs. There will be many rumours/bad stories out there. However people will look at the fees, speak to others who used them and look online at the reviews. Everything else is noise. Who knows if PURP will be the winners but there will be a online/hybrid winner.

Apad - Are you still going to hold SOU and SDX through thick n'thin until something major happens? Still in SDX out of the two and hope that we will regain momentum with news in time. Been a bit depressing holding SDX recently when all around seem to be going the opposite direction. Sentiment can change on a dime though. Just look at RBG.

Sheryl thanks. I suspect the US is big enough to not worry about that. Also suspect PURP will undercut them as amusingly Redkin charge 1.5% against a typical 6% commission in the US. Thought we were gullible in this country! 6% - wow! PURP is going to be volatile. To be honest my position is ideological. I want them to succeed and shake up the disgraceful Estate Agency market. If it doesn't then it's my contribution to the cause I guess ;) BQE - I know enough to have an initial holding. That's all I need to know for now.

Sold some IQE this morning 120p, I feel it has run up too fast - the per has gone from under 10 to over 40 in a yr. ok that may be deserved if profits are going to multiply but eps isn't soaring and 2 out of 3 analysts shr price tgts for 18/19 hav been reached already within weeks
Must be due a correction..

People just see the apple connection too attractive but they've been supplying them (indirectly) for yrs, it's nothing new. Overbought

thanks - and yes I saw the comments earlier; just this inexorable rise is extremely frustrating from the angle I see it! Your note of caution perhaps reflects the concern I had and why I have held off; Perhaps Ill get some prsm instead!!!! - mmmm on reflection not at present either!

I would counsel caution on RSW, janeann.

I suspect it might be all the iPhone nonsense causing the rise. Can't think of anything else.
Red and I discussed the results earlier.

I bought the dip in March last year at about £19. I can't imagine buying them at this price. One thing to note is that RSW don't brief tintins, so all the news is in the open.

RSW - have been hoping to get a few of these since the results - every time I decide to buy I find its up another 50p or 2x50p, and I have decided against it. Anyone any thoughts on what is driving this increase? Do I pay the premium or hope there may be btfd?

ZTF - small amount of buying moving the price; interims were 2 aug last year so must be imminent.

APAD - their business can be copied very easily. Not a great long term investment in my view but they can still make good money (profitable already) in short term. However at £20m it's gone ahead of events in my view hence why I've taken a big chunk out.
