Many thanks for your comments PapalPower. Much appreciated. Universe really looking up. Noticed in the past that it takes a small number of shares sold or bought to radically change the share price.

Cant beleieve its taken so long for Chip and pin to take off in the UK, we've had it in Holland for years.
In the office where Im working at the moment has vending machines and about 7 cafes, none of them take cash. They have 3 or 4 points around the place where you load cash from your bank account onto the chip on your ATM card, and that cash is used at the cafes, no pin number is required. Most parking metres acccept money in the same way.
All shops accept moeny from the card in the same way as a debit card works in the UK using the pin number.

No mucking about looking for change or a pen to sign a slip.

Teacake once the results confirm (and given the AGM statement was bullish as per the header so they should be) that its all moving positive there should be no reason why this one will not continue upwards. HTEC business should now grow at a very fast rate (even faster now they say UPT is catching on too as well as Chip and Pin)

They were 47p back in 2001 when I first became a holder. Sadly watched them drift down, though the dividends good. The dividends now are even better. The directors have been buying, the news is good, so topped up again this morning before the rise. Will I see 47p again?

The money changing side was restructured and sorted to make profit but the real growth side is HTEC. It has been said by a few analysts that HTEC on its on (forgetting FR and MC) could be worth 20 million in a couple of years. HTEC with parts like Chip and Pin and UPT looks set for massive growth.

Up 10% this morning.

The company seems to be rather imbalanced. The money changing operation is being reduced. There are no obvious signs that worthwhile growth there will be possible in the future. An amalgamation back with RTD would make sense.

We should see more buying this week following the contract news, it was a strange time to release the news at nearly end of trading on Friday but anyway its even more good news and backs up the AGM bullish outlook.

They do say that HTEC alone by 2007 could be worth 20 million on its own and that is something I hope they are right on.

Universe Group PLC
HTEC announces new contract with Suresite

Universe Group PLC ("Universe" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that
HTEC, the Company's retail and information systems subsidiary, has secured a new contract to supply Suresite Card Services with its HTEC Gemini EFT Terminals and the HTEC Intelligent PINpad. Suresite provides bank authorisation and payment services to independent petrol retailers across the UK. The contract will be implemented over the next 12 months and HTEC will provide on-going support to Suresite.

Ray Mackie, Chairman of Universe, comments:

"We are delighted that Suresite has chosen HTEC to supply its customers with
chip and PIN compliant equipment. The independent petrol retailers share of the UK market is growing quickly and we believe that Suresite is capable of securing a dominant position in this market. "

Geoff Oldham, Managing Director of Suresite reports:

"Chip and PIN, working over ISDN for high speed, is going to save our petrol
customers a lot of money as a result of increased security and the potential to
reduce merchant fees. There are only a limited number of suppliers offering
petroleum capable Chip and PIN solutions and HTEC was chosen because of its
specialist capability in forecourt solutions."

verynervy it should be plain sailing soon once we get the results to prove all is good, with HTEC along possibly being worth 20 million in a couple of years once the good news flows there will be nothing holding this back. The UPT system and Chip+Pin is also additions that will boost this.

Ray Mackie said;

The Board is confident of a good result for the half year and for the year as a whole. We expect to announce the interim results for the six months ending 30 June 2005 on 2 September 2005.

addict its probably history and that even though things are good a lot of people will wait for it to be confirmed in results statements before finally lifting their prejudice, as it is June now and those results are 3 months away now we should see a period of rises coming soon.

Yes-the first showing of blue for a while.Not sure what it's going to take to see a meaningful increase in the share price.Positive trading statements lift it but it slides back.Very under-rated IMHO.

similar stuff from thewrongprice.com - "Assuming that there are no more development costs or exceptionals this year, and turnover continues to increase, then Universe's shares are currently trading at below ten times prospective earnings. Meanwhile, the total dividend - although reduced last year to 0.75p (2003: 1.7p) - still suggests a yield of around 4.5 per cent at the current share price. Buy."

Great news.

Last weeks final commment was from www.t1ps.com ;

For the full year I'm still expecting turnover to have increased to c.£46 million, with pre-tax profits of c.£1.6 million, equating to earnings of 2.5p which should fund a payout of 1p. Clearly the risks are now on the upside.. If Universe hits my forecasts it would put the shares, at 18.5p, on a PE of 7.4 and a yield of well over 5% That would make the shares look cheap, and now I'm optimistic that my patience will be finally rewarded. The stance is unchanged, "buy."
