juju43 its not like a dog that wont die its more like an unhealthy cub thats taken its medicine and now will become the tiger as its well known that the growth from Universe will be massive from Htec and Chip and Pin when they can turn the corner and if the half year figures show that they have its going to keep going up.

Htec alone by 2007 could be worth over 20 million.

I am not sure but would think its based on put your card in and enter your pin and the amount is debited so for example at the petrol station no need to walk into the shop to pay you can do it at the pump and just put your debit or credit card straight into a slot on the pump itself. A few bits about it;

Recently, the introduction of kiosks and Unattended Payment Terminals (UPT) has enabled retailers to offer self-service options to their customers, delivering new sales outlets, faster checkout times and reduced costs.
In recent years, the US market has seen the use of unattended payment terminals growing by between 17 to 20% per annum, according to Summit Research Associates, with other territories now predicted to experience similar growth rates. The experience of US retailers has suggested that the introduction of unattended terminals delivers increased customer spend through faster service and more effective utilisation of store space. Retailers are also able to offer a broader range of products (including virtual products) and services. For example, the use of unattended payment terminals can allow customers to book tickets and top up pre-pay mobiles or electronic gift cards in addition to existing retailer products.

Allows payment to be made in an increased number of environments e.g. outdoor payments and for an increased number of applications
● Self service approach improves utilisation of floor space and reduces staff costs
● Increased convenience and availability of customer service, enhanced customer privacy and faster checkout times
● More efficient checkout process increases speed of turnover and therefore increases revenue
● Enables re-deployment of checkout staff to other areas of the store to improve service
● Enables retailers to offer a broader range of products and services (both virtual and physical) while ensuring that the potential for fraud is addressed

Looking further ahead, we are very excited by our PIN enabled unattended payment system. We have commenced installation in petrol forecourts and we are seeking unattended applications outside our traditional markets. We anticipate that unattended systems will be a growth market as a result of the introduction of Chip and PIN'.

Does anyone know how the above works.

It is very good news and not unexpected and with the Xdiv date on 18th May this could see a lot more buying now, still with the target of 30p short term.

AGM Statement

Universe Group plc, the retail and information systems company held its AGM today when Ray Mackie, Chairman, told shareholders:

'We have got off to a strong start in 2005. At HTEC our sales in the first
quarter were substantially up on the first quarter sales of 2004 as a result of the impetus from Chip and PIN related business.

Currency Division had a respectable level of activity, given market conditions for tourism in Paris where we have ten shops and the competitive nature of the international money transfer market.

The Board is confident of a good result for the half year and for the year as a whole. We expect to announce the interim results for the six months ending 30 June 2005 on 2 September 2005.

Looking further ahead, we are very excited by our PIN enabled unattended payment system. We have commenced installation in petrol forecourts and we are seeking unattended applications outside our traditional markets. We anticipate that unattended systems will be a growth market as a result of the introduction of Chip and PIN'.

Re the jewel in the crown, HTEC:

I visit southampton occasionally, and have seen the offices for a company called Htec Ltd for around 20 years:

and on this web site they talk about hosting at their secure head office site. Do you know where the Universe group Htec is based, and if they have more than one southampton office if this is the same thing, as the offices I saw in southampton looked like a little tinpot operation - but mainly because they are old 60's style office buildings I guess - no indication of how dynamic the company is inside.

I applied there as a student for a job in the holidays (admittedly 18 odd years ago). The offices back then looked pretty basic...but a lot can change in that time...

..I honestly didnt believe UNG Htec was the same one as down the road... and I am still not sure...anyone have the addresses?

I certainly do think they will be back, do not forget we have a dividend for a start, we also have this backed by many positive comments on various share trading sites, and we have a positive outlook and growing business long term, with the "jewel in the crown" HTEC, part of the Universe Group.

do you think it is likely, or are you just desperate for the continuous buying... I hope they come back too..
