I have known a lot of market makers, been on the floor of one every week for years. I know what happens. The maniupulation the MPs talk of is simply not true. They make a book, if they are short they push up, etc etc. Im not saying that now and again they will get wind of information where they might take a position but generally its a spread theyre looking to take.
Blaming market makers is a typical excuse used by naive mug punters who do not understand how it works

elcap ukog bulls always blame market makers when the price is falling and never say a word against them when it rises. Given market makers make a market and can be both long or short it is unlikely if they were manipulating prices they'd be doing it in just one direction.

The reality is obviously that bulls just want to blame "market makers" for price falls because the alternative is to admit that the share price is falling because there are more sellers than buyers.

My view is that market makers seldom if ever manipulate prices. They will however always know that if they are short shares they can get them from YA who will be a seller if required.

It amazes me how mug punters always think the market makers are up to tricks to try and justify a falling share price. They really have no idea how it works

If the results are released between Christmas and New Year there won't be many pi traders around so the potential for market makers to escalate the price for short periods to silly levels could be on the cards. Will be a few days with the finger hovering over the mouse just in case.
