PI perception of shorts is mostly b0llox. All this loads of shorts ready to drive the price higher is just nonsense, in the same category as tree shakes and evil market-makers. Going short is expensive - much more so than being long, even if the share price is flat, you have the cost of carry, dividend to pay (if there is a divi natch) and you often have to wait for the market to turn."

Absolutely. There are also different types of shorting of which I have very little knowledge. Suffice to say the percentages we see does not necessarily mean the 'shorter' wants the share price to drop. I'm not sure how it works.

I like to know what the percentage of shorters are but this obsession with 'burning' them etc is nonsense.

eipgam - the fees are good, it aids liquidity and a fund has a long time horizon.

I'm long TLW and think Odey and his mates are wrong, but this is a very geared investment on POO - a simple race between Tullow's bopd multiplied by poo versus debt interest and ability to cover. They need execute on their strategy with little margin for error. I'm here because I believe that when this is de-risked it's a £20 stock, and as has been pointed put by others, the majors will need to replenish their reserves later in the cycle.

Phillis... I can never understand why a holder would loan shares to a company that is trying it's damnedest to destroy the value/price of the asset. The loan fee can't be that high?

Well, haven't posted for ages as been in the doldrums for past few years (well since 2008 actually) but I am so excited that my first BUY oil trade in 2 years is TLW and.....wait for it.......I'm actually £10 up in my SIPP. Still can't sell though as it would cost me £12.50 in dealer charges. lol.
I am "so" excited............nearly!
Is this the beginning of back to £15.....well, in next 10 years anyway.

I guess if any of the 7.291m and 10.891m are being used for shorting purposes as seems quite likely then indeed they are being recalled. Offsets DBs sells if the hedges are buying back too.

Seems clear to me. DB in their current precarious position are selling everything that isn't nailed down. This includes stocks they have lent out to shorters.

Hi NB

Ticketyboo, thanks... the falling pound has easily compensated for losses elsewhere ;-) Anyway, back to TLW

in DB RNS of 7/10 they say they have right to recall 7.291m shares
in DB RNS of today, they say they have right to recall 10.891m shares

Ooops! Maybe I have it totally wrong and they are lending out more shares. Any clarification will be gratefully accepted...

Hi Mag,

How you doing?

Aren`t DB just making a bit of profit? How do you know they are calling stock in...

Shorts steady at 14.11%- no one reported a change since 12th.

The latest 2 RNSs from DB are a bit confusing. It looks as if they are selling and calling in the stock they have loaned out. Does anybody else have a clearer idea?
