Uber Oil bear Barclays throws in the towel for H2/2018 and 2019!

In the middle of April, Barclays expected oil prices to collapse in the second half of this year - telling the market to expect $57 Brent by the third and fourth quarters - as it saw a new supply surplus looming because of an “overstated221; impact of Iran and Venezuela on the oil market( an urgent spec-saver group appointment for their expensive team of 'analysts' was perhaps in order).

For the second half of 2018, Barclays said yesterday that it now sees Brent averaging $73, some 28% higher than its April price call, as it expects "lower supply from Iran and Libya to further tighten the oil market." (never mind Venezuela where oil production continued to fall off a cliff!)

“Due to new outages and a quicker Iran supply reduction, we see Brent prices averaging $71 next year,” said Barclays - up from a previous forecast of $65.

According to the bank, OPEC and Russia’s decision to reverse some of the production cuts would deplete the global spare capacity cushion and push prices up, but OPEC’s leader Saudi Arabia, as well as Russia, would be making efforts to cap a big upside in oil prices because much higher prices would destroy oil demand growth.

“OPEC’s decision and disruptions elsewhere will deplete the market’s spare capacity cushion, raising prices,” Barclays’ analysts said after coming back from their spec-saver appointment.

Possibly what people are seeing is that their broker has taken all their money for now, and they are assuming this means they'll get all the shares they asked for but actually they will get some of their money back if its over subscribed.

Gabrialoak...thank you for your reply...it would seem that brokers are likely to be closer to the ground regarding the volumes of subscription and are likely to be able to get an indication at least of the likely scale back if any in order to inform their individual clients so that they can begin to rebalance their TRIN positions. Regards.

LOL - there's been a lot of speculation on here - let's just see where we stand next week (+) once everyone knows their allocations and hopefully we get an informative operations update with some form of look-ahead?

I think in time TRIN shares will be a lot higher than 16p so long as oil behaves. I can't guarantee that by next friday though (although would be nice as I head off to Cadiz for a month!)

I doubt you broker will book shares to an interim line and then funge them. They will just book them on the 19/7 when they receive them.

The friday deadline will be set locally by your brokers. They take a couple of days off to process but it actually closed at 11 am today. So there is no way anyone would have had their allocation confirmed before then.
I worked in corporate finance for many years including managing a corporate actions processing department. Its just not possible to have the exact allocation. The receiving agent will have an idea for sure, but nothing would be finalised until it closes.

it could be that it just shows a placeholder for the shares subscribed.

GO - I suggest you read the announcement again. The timetable is quite clear and I have checked that with all three of my brokers. Closed at 11 am today. Allocations should be known tomorrow.

A family member of mine rang their broker this morning and was told they had received what they asked for. Surely they would not leave it as late as today for applications, the latest I heard was Friday.

Given that the deadline for receipt of applications was this morning anyopne saying they heard they got their full allocation yesterday is just telling porkies:

Latest time for receipt of completed Application 11.00 a.m. on 10 July

I just called Interactive Investor to ask about the subscription outcome. I would get more sense from the counter in McDonald's.

Thanks for the heads up Gabrieloak. I assume those in nominated accounts will be classified as larger subscriptions such as my own in Iweb and will be scaled back. I was expecting that but perhaps not as much as I had feared. Still not been notified by Iweb...anybody else in Iweb with an update?

The TRIN vs TXP alternatives are actually quite different now.
Lets see what happens over the next 6-12 months not 6-12 days lol!!
