Mortgage borrowing picked up in September, according to major lenders.
The Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) said total lending by its members rose to £28bn, its highest monthly figure on record, up from £26.9bn in August.

Every little helps (sorry wrong company)

ART are still waiting to hear whether or not the other side have been granted leave to appeal to the House of Lords (HoL) by their Lordships. That process was slowed by the summer recess. The Court of Appeal (in rejecting the other side's case completely) denied any leave to a further appeal, but there is a direct route to HoL that they (the other side) were thought to be exploring. I guess that the other side would have to demonstrate why it felt that the HoL would pick this matter up, now, as ART won hands down on all previous occasions - (1) they won the original case, (2) they won the appeal, and (3) they won the 'no easy route' to the HoL from the Court of Appeal. I would not expect a further update until the interims. In my view this matter is now in a coffin awaiting a lid with the score 3-0 to ART. ART will only recognise the not immaterial monies it has received (circa 500k at the time of the AGM) when that lid is closed, and under 6 feet of legal concrete. I would expect that to be confirmed somewhere between the forthcoming interims and the finals, but I really don't think that the market has yet priced in the benefit of legal closure here or the 500k receipt. steve

david................Why is there always something that gives me a headache with ART??.

The only way that we'll ever get a fraction of our investment back is if a predator were to emerge and the name artisan is forever removed from the lse, but of course no such luck whilst the threat of further court action hangs in the air!

I was rather disappointed that we are being set up for some hefty costs on the dodgy management change though.....six weeks ago we were told

.....The Board of Artisan also announces that Martyn Freeman has decided to stand down as Chief Executive and resign as a Director of Artisan (UK) plc and other group companies with immediate effect. .....Now that this has
been substantially achieved, Martyn has decided to pursue further opportunities
outside of the Group.

In todays statement we are set up for.....

The company said that, despite absorbing the costs associated with the
departure of the former chief executive Martin Freeman last month, it expects
its interim results to be "broadly similar" to a year ago.

Are we talking hefty payout and some 'other reason' for MFs departure as immediate effect always has me checking the facts and sadly expecting nasties to follow...

Why is there always something that gives me a headache with ART??.

Nothing in this release to make people rush into this share, but nothing untoward either. In fact more encouraging than offputting, even promising if you believe the housing market is gradually on the mend and you're willing to lock these away for another two years. And having already held for six years whats another 700 days:-)

Artisan sees H1 'broadly similar' to yr ago

LONDON (AFX) - AIM-listed developer Artisan (UK) PLC said it expects its
results for the six months to September to be "broadly similar" to a year ago.
In a pre-close trading statement before its interim results announcement due
Nov 29, the company said it expects to report higher sales for both the Rippon
Homes residential housing and the Artisan (UK) Developments commercial business
park subsidiary. It said trading margins will be only slightly down compared
with a year ago.
The company said that, despite absorbing the costs associated with the
departure of the former chief executive Martin Freeman last month, it expects
its interim results to be "broadly similar" to a year ago.
"These resilient results are achieved in the face of a less than favourable
housing market," it said. It added, however, that the end of the first half, "we
are seeing signs of improved consumer activity".
The company said that actual sales of houses still depend largely on
part-exchanges and what it described as "sales assistance packages".

yes owenski - So are ART,,, but only up to a point. They believe they have won 3-0 (so far). 1 - the high court (they won), 2 - the court of appeal, (they won) 3 - the lack of leave of grant of right to appeal, (they won). All that said, the other 'side' are still trying to get this 'thing' into the House of Lords (!?!). They may of course succeed in doing so (nothing would surprise me in this wonderful judiciary we have) - hence the uncertainty (and the pricing impact). ART believe that there is no particular timescale to the HoL admitting an appeal to their Lordships (or not) but that we may know more within 'a couple of months'. It was all handled at the AGM for those there to hear. steve

ps - ART have received circa £500k since the appeal outcome but will not recognise this until this matter is concrete-lidded.
