Harry Potter helps lift Cineworld
The FT

Strong growth in cinema attendances on the back of releases such as Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and The Simpsons Movie helped Cineworld swing into profit last year.

Pre-tax profit for the year to the end of December was £12.4m, compared with a loss of £7.7m the year before. Revenue rose 2.4 per cent to £285.3m, taking market share from 23.5 per cent to 23.7 per cent.

In spite of concerns that weakening consumer spending in the UK could put cinema attendances under pressure, Stephen Wiener, chief executive, said 2008 had started strongly and that the outlook was promising.

Shares in Cineworld closed down 1p at 130p.

I am not a holder of TPH, and am scared that as soon as they get a decent share price move up, they will announce a rights issue to fund a takeover of ECK but they seem to be moving the TPH price now yes

Start of the push for a higher share price to enable an ECK takeover

Soon as TPH hit double ECK imho TPH will make a part cash part share offer that will leave TPH owning over 50% of the enlarged group.

This is looking cheap IMHO.

Turnover £9.67m
EBITDA £933k (even after a £2m increase in sales and marketing which could be reduced going foward)
Cash £4m (increased by £1m)

So on Mkt Cap £8.75m - cash £4m = EV £4.75

Only on an EV/EBITDA of 5

Not much interest yet nickelmer.

I for one hope a deal does not take place and both companies move forward from here on their own.

Newkid - If TPH issues paper to buy eck, the quantity would be pretty significant, in fact it would amount to eck shareholders taking over tph.

TPH might be an interesting play, they may well make a bid announcement for Eckoh on Thursday with their annual results, however if they dont they may want to try to get the share price up fast in order to issue paper to fund the takeover, not sure which is the better trade, to buy TPH in hope that they want to get their shares up, or ECK in the light of a potential 10p bid....

Either way Thursday looks an interesting day......

Let us look at the numbers then LBO:

TPH: Turnover FY =
TPH: FY PBT =
TPH: PE =
TPH: Market Value =

Now look at Eckoh and let us know what you think the deal could be, or anyone else care to have a stab?

Looks like a share deal

Yes, but just by the fact you have more shares in issue the MCAP will increase (sp x no. of shares = MCAP)...so with more shares the valuation of the company will be higher....thats all I'm trying to say.
Anyway, hopefully we'll get some press over the weekend and this BB and hopefully the stock will get busier....its been like tumbleweed for the last 6 months, both on this thread, news and volume.....

Is this, finally the time to be in TPH?

If a deal was struck, then even if they place shares at a price that all parties feel will enhance the total value of the company and give it the steam to grow at a rapid pace, that will result in a much higher share price for all parties concerned.

What you must remember is that TPH is currently very undervalued and if the other party can be shown that is the case, I expect them to jump at the chance of picking up paper in TPH.

but surely they will need to place shares to pay for some or all of the acquisition, hence, dilution.....

I doubt if you will see dilution, my guess is that if a deal is struck, it will be good for all parties concerned. TPH, has a good strong team at the helm.

I'm a tad worried about the dilution in the short-medium term.....this would hinder the share price progress, even if it does reverse in Eckoh, I still think I have a long wait to get back to break even....its not as if they're awash with cash either.

but its obvious Telephonetics have won the war of wills regarding speech recoginition....also back to profitability, ahead of forecasts....the future looks brighter now....still probably a speculative buy.

Either way I see very postive things coming from a merger or RTO in some form or another as TPH is on a roll now it seems.

Not cash I would have thought... part share and cash deal.

LBO...how do you think they'll fund the acquisition, an upfront intial payment in cash, then a deferred amount of cash and/or shares depending on future performance?

Telephonetics talks to TV phone-in firm

Speech recognition group Telephonetics has emerged as one of the bidders for Eckoh, the phone service provider facing legal action from Channel 4 over its role in a TV phone-in scandal.

City sources claimed that Telephonetics had made an indicative proposal of 10p-a-share or more for Eckoh, which was fined £1m by Ofcom for misconduct in the You Say We Pay contest, part of the Richard & Judy show.

oilforex perhaps you cant read the dates on the links and thats why you dismiss them as "old, old news" LOL

If I remember correctly deanroberthunt Landsbanki were calling 2008 FY PBT of £1m and £0.3m for 2007
