It makes me smile when posters go on at length over a sustained period about how good the dividends are at TW and it being a no brainer based on the predictions going forward............... to then see posts about selling prior to the dividend qualification date!

m4rtinu .Got wise to watching the value of investments drop for the sake of a divi.
Im fully out now took 5.8% in 5 weeks . I feel I have a good chance to get back in significantly lower I see no reason for this to trade up through its ex div unless they have more news in store but I doubt it as the chairman's wife would be in serious trouble . As it happens she didn't miss much did she selling when she did .Monday morning will tell as it is the first trading day after the record date. GL

Battue - good point.

I think the real relevance of charts is that, if buying/ selling algorithms are written taking chart features into account (and why wouldn't they be), then action of share price can be influenced accordingly. As I said above, tomorrow could go either way.

I'm not sure how recent a phenomenon, the pre-ex divi trading of what seem to be income shares is, but it does seem to be a thing; and quite a good strategy it can be. But it is almost an informed guessing game.

Anyway, good luck tomorrow.

PS: on thinking about it, the timing of TW's announcement of more generous ordinary divis, so close to special ex divi date is "interesting".

Cleverly kept share price above 200 yesterday and today so as not to trigger stops at that level.Topped out same as last year a week before exdiv.
M4rtinu theres a trading gap at 176 from last july. Just saying.

I can't tell. Sound unbiased reasoning.
I also reckon PI's have an edge over so called pro's are we are using our own money and accountable to ourselves, rather than clients.

On whether it is a game or investing, I reckon you are right on both counts.
It is investing for medium to longer term, but short term trading is a game with gambling/guessing/bluffing/double bluffing with some psychology thrown in - all as illustrated in your post.

I was was for sub 200 to top up.. I have 10 minutes to buy or wait for sub 190 tomorrow. I will be patient and wait and see what tomorrow brings.

Buying into close as I have difficulty believing we see these hanging around for too long around 190p with a 9.5% forward yield. I may be wrong tomorrow but we will see. It'd be a different story if we were talking an 8% forward yield but 9.5% is too much

I can see reasons to argue either way on share price ex divi tomorrow.

If the FTSEs (100,250) have another day like yesterday, I could see a fall in share price of TW being overdone. And looking at the chart, a reversal is possible, with 12 month low of 175p being a really worse case scenario. More likely, in this scenario, 180-185p.

On the other hand, the company is telling us it is in good order. And, if future divis are not scuppered by the economy, a return to a rising share price to a new level could be on the cards. Starting with a closing share price tomorrow of 190-195p. The weakness in this week's share price has not been very reassuring though.

For my part, I have bought in recently; though I guess my holding is small in comparison to others on here. I am no expert, as you can probably tell. Investing shouldn't be a game but at times it seems like it.

Probably be better if the dividend was spread quarterly instead of this annual special divi nonsense. Regional Reit a quarterly 8% annual has barely moved over the two dividends this year.

First year everybody is expecting a double dividend crash in the following days ( last year 203 to 179 by the following week). Probably wont happen because sellers already in. I expect 195 by close tomorrow.

That's me out, Ive learnt my lesson from previous years, always held on for divi just to watch the share price drop further. Saying that it will probably rise tomorrow now I've sold, who knows!
