LONDON--Housebuilders Barratt Developments PLC (BDEV.LN) and Taylor Wimpey PLC (TW.LN) will rejoin the FTSE100 index later this month, FTSE International said Wednesday, replacing engineering firm IMI PLC (IMI.LN) and oil services company Petrofac Ltd. (PFC.LN).
Housebuilders' shares have been buoyed by the U.K.'s growing economy and by the government's Help to Buy scheme.
Barratt Developments rejoined the index for just one quarter earlier this year, after a six-year absence but slipped back out in June. Taylor Wimpey was last in the index in 2008.
Petrofac has been a member of the top index since 2009, while IMI has been a member since 2010.
The changes are based on Tuesday's closing share prices and take effect from the close of business on Dec. 19.
The FTSE100 is a share index of the 100 most highly-capitalized companies listed on the London Stock Exchange. Any company that falls to 111th and below is automatically ejected from the top-flight index, while any firm that rises to 90 or above is automatically promoted.

There was always going to be a slight retraction, should catch it's breath today and then continue north.

Don't forget there will be an election campaign running interference along the way though - so there may be a fair bit of volatility.

Someone seems determined to prevent TW from gaining entry to the FTSE 100.Oh well. Santa rally plus typical strong first quarter for house builders plus buyers wanting in for the large dividend next year should see this ticking up nicely in the coming months.

I expect this will hold its ground today. I think end of play today is when the share price is taken for ftse 100 inclusion.after which I think it will loose some ground , so as to allow tracker funds in at sensible levels. If you look back at shares that have been run up to the qualification date as this clearly has, they have in general been dropped irrespective of market direction no doubt for the benefit of bigger investors.
Still a good year to come with a good divi, lets hope the politicians don't ruin it in may.GL

Two companies are on track to be promoted to the FTSE 100 this week as the UK’s main stock indices undergo a reshuffle.

Residential property development companies Barratt Developments and Taylor Wimpey are both in line to be moved on to the FTSE 100 index from their current position on the FTSE 250.

from the Argus today a few minutes ago.

House prices in England and Scotland remain above their pre-financial crisis peaks of 2008 but have dipped slightly compared with their levels in August.

But in recent weeks, lenders have unleashed some of their lowest ever mortgage rates onto the market as they look to meet end-of-year targets. Mark Harris, chief executive of mortgage broker SPF Private Clients, said the ONS figures show "there is still plenty of momentum left in the market".

He said: "With the spring likely to be a challenge for the housing market ahead of the general election, lenders will continue offering fantastic deals to entice buyers and those remortgaging."

Housing Minister Brandon Lewis said: “This Government is committed to delivering long-term economic stability. That's why we've pulled out the stops and got Britain building, with planning permission granted for 230,000 homes across England in the last year and housebuilding levels now at their highest since 2007.”

Hi Lostuser

Many thanks for that.
I read about it somewhere and then could not find it. I think I also read that TW had paid special divs in the past.
Put in a limit last night, bought a bit higher than expected as I put in a limit of 134.5 and got thousands at just under 134 - Joemillions bought a few more than me but I'm a close second imo.
