Sugar expected to peak around 30 - higherprice results in increased planting and results will kick in later in year. Tate is not only sugar indeed if oil price keeps up over 70 and sustainable then the ethanol interest comes back into the figures. Indeed Tate is a refiner and provider of sweeteners for other uses as well as wheat. So the long term sustainability needs to take over from the temporary crop failure effect -so see this share as fairly fully priced in those terms. The dividend is a factor in this well run company listed since 1938 one of the longest survivors and long may it reign ! If interest rates stay low globally in the main currencies that is a support for the share price and if they were to rise to the peaks of the last cycle it is a tax free dividend if you are an ordinary tax payer which is 20% difference.

Veritcal integration is back in fashion!!!! A few years ago conventional wisdom is that the companies got rid off their 'non-core' segments to boost return on investments. Hence, we saw Alcan spun off its can-making division though it was eventually taken over by Rio Tinto a year or so later. But vertical integration seems to be fashionable again with Exxon's takeover of XTO Energy.. Companines want to control their suppliers.
If that vertical integration trends are to be seen in food and beverages sector, Tate and Lyle is a perfect candidate. Tate supplies essential ingredients to major beverage giants in the world. A few years ago, it was mooted as a takeover target. But the companies seem to be busy with credit-crunch related problems and takeover rumors subsided for a while.
According to my experience, the best time to buy a stock is after simultaneous downgrade by brokers. Shares tend to go into tailspin and a lot of people gave up. The share price is pushed to a point which is sometimes known as local minimum.
Recent broker downgrade, along with refashioning of vertical integration, makes Tate and Lyle a very very interesting stock. I don't have a major interest here. But I sold a put spread. So my rewards are limited. I am seriously thinking of buying this stock now.

400p would be my guess...with dividend at 22p looks about the right price to support this sell off, however shorts we have to closed so could be exciting trading ahead.

pictureframe.

Be lucky to hold at 4.20p today, what I rechon has happend is alot of investors has gone for the share option instead of dividend paid in cash, so this has been downgraded so that investors don't sell out for a quick profit.
