Wilb. Had a late night?! lol. I take it by OXO/XOX you're talking about point and figure charts. Takes a bit to get that one. Still haven't got it myself properly. Don't worry yet.

Wilb. Well done. I hope it helps. There's a 'help' bit to click on the right of the studies but they're a bit basic. But don't forget you can google anything you need to know about...any of the studies or candlesticks etc. Gaps are another thing to learn about, here's something on them. Best of luck.

Wilb. Sorry about the drop this a.m. I should of been more definite about that psychological 580 barrier. You could of done the same as wad...taken a bit out. But I can't see it dropping much more. Too many big boys in this share, unless they know something we don't!

Wilb. The financials got hit first because many top investors/traders saw the recession coming before the HERD! I didn't know you were in BARC, but a friend of mine I grew up with, and who I first learnt some charting with, put his BT retirement money into BARC & LLOY. He caught BARC at 89p after the bottom and has done well. It was he who first heard of the 200ma on some radio programme on at 4.30 a.m. Some fund manager said he always protected his clients' money...as soon as the share price dropped below the falling 200ma he was out. Don't forget you can put all three, ema sma wma, on at once. And one final offering if I may. You're not a payer, but for the £150 for UK SILVER you get constant streaming and all the time you want to mess around with the charts. £3 a week isn't much...it could save you thousands!

Wilb. As you seem keen to learn...No 1 rule...Preservation of your wealth. Not many seem to know about the 200sma/ema/wma but once the price drops thru a falling 200ma then it's time to seriously consider the sale of the share. My fav..BARC. You can see what happened.

Thanks. The trouble with my approach is that sometimes I never get the chance to buy back - the share price drifts on upwards.Or I buy back and it keeps falling.
However, I am keeping 2/3rd of my holding here long term.

wad/Wilb. I had another look at the chart this a.m. Must admit there is a slight worry as the share price approaches 580s as that has been the 3 yr high. Not to say it won't push on thru that level, it being such a solid share, plus the talk of any takeover possibility, but it might pay to be cautious as you have been wad. Best of luck.

I sold a chunk last week for 579 .The charts don't show that it ever got that high , but I am not complaining.Down another 20p or so and I'll have them back ...

The City rumour mill is still churning out the tales, and today it was the turn of Tate & Lyle to benefit.

Shares in the FTSE 250-listed agribusiness rose 22p to 559p amid chatter that it could soon receive an approach.

Gossips put a price tag of 750p on the bid, while mooting US food giant Archer Daniels Midland as a possible suitor.

Four years ago, however, whispers had put Tate on the shopping list of both private equity and Nestlé.

We will see , personally I have put some of mine on a 575 sell limit.

Soluble dextrin fibre in beverages may improve satiety: Tate & Lyle study

By Nathan Gray, 18-Jan-2011

Hard to imagine this study publication really relevant. I suspect its rise reflects 1.the market generally and 2.that this is a company with good prospects of capital and dividend growth in a mature market.
