15/7/2004 11:22 | I read the Seymour Pierce report from March again, to analyse what they were basing their estimates on and whether the current signs were consistent with these. Aside from coins, which they do not mention anywhere, the following in particular caught my attention regarding on-line trading... "Whilst we have talked about the potential of the internet for Stanley Gibbons before, in 2004 we believe that significant effort will be made in increasing its revenue creation ability. Online trading is being researched, and could be rolled out across the group's websites, whilst the advertising revenue line could be increased significantly." Well, online trading stopped being "researched" shortly after that report and was fully implemented. All their stamps, peripherals and catalogues/books can be purchased on-line. I checked out the process and it is very simple and smooth. We all know how easy it is to buy something when you only need a couple of clicks, as opposed to posting off a cheque... I think this aspect in particular is well ahead of where Seymour Pierce estimated it to be. Web sales in 2003 increased by 25% (increasing from 6 to 9 million hits per month). This was before the on-line trading was fully implemented. Considering that only 28% of sales came from outside UK last year (and nearly half of that from Europe), easy on-line trading opens up a huge market and huge growth potential. [EDIT] mmm... slight proviso... depends on what Seymour Pierce mean by "online trading". If they mean being able to buy AND sell online, which is SGI's ambition, then it is only half implemented... | ![]() xdavid
15/7/2004 10:07 | What no ones mentioning is the size of the global market: ''The Board is committed to realising the potential associated with being the only recognised brand name in an estimated $10 billion per annum market and to continued growth in revenues and earnings over the second half of the year and beyond." SGI have only just begun to scratch the surface of the market. The internet has extended its global reach and they are beginning to get a firm foothold in emerging markets such as China and India. A superb growth stock if there was ever one... | ![]() nurdin

14/7/2004 13:22 | But the imbalance is only about 20k this week, which is nothing really. Think the only real sellers are T+ closing on the PRVD sale news. Sure they'll be back shortly for the interims. | ukhawk
14/7/2004 13:10 | yep, 2v1. IMO the mm's are just covering the stock they sold earlier in the week. Results in 2 weeks time, so any brave traders may opt to sell now and buy back cheaper. However I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few waiting to get in at a lower price. FWIW I dont think it'll go much lower, if you look at SGI's trading history, you'll see pullbacks of 1-2p. With the spread at it is, it is almost impossible to trade. No worries here, sitting pretty and waiting for interims (oh and its my B-day tomorrow :) ) | ![]() kael
14/7/2004 13:05 | Yep the real spread is 91/93, but you can still only buy 1500 online. Looks like they've picked up some stock today but happy to sit on it. Aren't they supposed to make a "fair market" ? Anybody got L2 there ? | ukhawk
14/7/2004 11:59 | They are now buying at mid price! | ![]() kael
