I assume you guys are watching Wall St and in particular the Nas. Spirent cant buck the wider market and buy backs at this stage will be a total waste of money.

It was only a tree-shake just for some monkies to fall, now it will continue to rise beyond belief.

I see the anticipated pullback is in full swing. If it goes back to 45p I will re-enter.

So therefore why blow £50 million cash on buying back your own shares. Tell me chaps what you could do with that amount of cash? This is very short term thinking and does'nt show much confidence in the business model!!

you are all missing the very important point,,,,,,,,,,,,,,business is turning round to the upside ,,,,,this is what will push this share much higher ,not share buybacks.....

Vodafone's massive buy back did'nt seem to help at all. I'm not convinced about this strategy in general. It seems an aweful waste of cash to me. Of course it puts a floor on the price in the short term whatever that is but medium to long it must depend on fundamentals and such things as dividends. In Spirent's case the concept of paying a dividend does'nt appear to be on the agenda!!

I've taken my profit as I expect a small retrace now. If I'm wrong then I've still made my profit and good luck to everyone else. If I'm right then I'll get back in lower down.

It seems to me that in the short term the price will be in the price range at which Spirent have instructed their buy back to be made. This will effectively put a floor under the price. Does anyone agree and can anyone tell what that floor is - 48p? Can anyone see a good reason why the price will not fall after completion of the buy back? How long will it take?

Anthony Bolton has signalled all is not well with the UK stockmarket by taking out a FTSE 100 put option for his Fidelity Special Values investment trust.

Bolton, AAA rated by Citywire for his management of the Fidelity Special Situations (Fidelity Special Situations Acc) unit trust, believes investors are seeing the final stage of the bull market and purchased the three-month option at the end of March. This gives him the rights to sell £91 million of FTSE 100 exposure at a 5% discount.

Bolton has reduced the £407 million trust's net level of gearing to zero, down from its usual level of 15%-20%. The purchase of the option was coordinated with the sale of a number of investments.
