worth repeating:

Plans submitted for innovative accommodation solution for trainees
16.10.2014

Bilfinger Salamis UK has submitted a planning application for modular accommodation in support of its Skills Centre and safety training, in response to increased demand for its practical courses.

The Bridge of Don-based company initially opened its Skills Centre in 2007 as a staff-only facility to ensure all Bilfinger Salamis UK staff had up-to-date training, and could have their competency verified. Over 70% of the Centre’s business now comes from external clients from across the UK, as the energy industry addresses skill shortages, and focuses on having a fully trained and competent workforce.

The centre is now the only site in Aberdeen to offer OPITO-approved painting and blasting courses, and also offers a range of working at height courses, confined space training, and offshore “S-Cape” systems training, amongst others.

Bilfinger Salamis UK, which provides integrated, multi-disciplined support services and maintenance solutions to a range of clients, principally in the energy industry, trains over 8,500 delegates a year at the Skills Centre, and plans to expand its current training catalogue to include further industry-specific trades training in 2015.

However, a shortage of accommodation in Aberdeen, which will be exacerbated with the start of work on the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route in 2015, means the company is looking at alternative options for those undergoing training.

“WITH PLANS TO WIDEN TO SCOPE OF OUR TRAINING WITH ADDITIONAL COURSES, WE ARE FACING A REAL PROBLEM WHEN IT COMES TO FINDING ACCOMMODATION FOR THESE VISITORS, SO WE ARE LOOKING AT ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS.”
Bilfinger Salamis Skills Centre manager Wendy Stephan said: “We have a large number of delegates travelling from outside Aberdeen to attend courses at the Skills Centre, with many coming from the central belt, or the north of England.

“With plans to widen to scope of our training with additional courses, we are facing a real problem when it comes to finding accommodation for these visitors, so we are looking at alternative options.”

Bilfinger Salamis UK has worked with portable accommodation providers Snoozebox on a possible solution for those receiving training.

Plans have been submitted to Aberdeen City Council for a modular, system-built facility using 45ft ISO shipping containers which are converted to provide ensuite bedrooms. The proposed facility would initially be open for five years.

The accommodation would be based at Bilfinger Salamis UK’s existing site at Greenhole Place, Bridge of Don, and would offer 80 beds for delegates undergoing training at the firm’s Skills Centre, which is located within 10 minutes walking distance.

The compact and cleverly designed rooms feature a full-size double bed and a bunk. The rooms are equipped with an ensuite bathroom (shower, toilet and sink). Each room has air conditioning and heating, LCD TV, free wifi access, power sockets, hanging space, storage drawers and a small desk, and are supplied with quality linens and towels. In addition, each room has secure key card access and a personal safe. As part of the proposal, a small social/break out space is also provided for the trainees.

Daily housekeeping would be provided by Snoozebox.

Snoozebox works across a range of circumstances such as events, construction projects, and in the affordable housing sector, with recent deployments including key worker accommodation at the Ryder Cup in Gleneagles.

Bilfinger Salamis UK Managing Director Hayward added: “Bilfinger Salamis UK is constantly exploring all options in terms of developing our business, and we are at the very early planning stages of a project.

“Our proposals would present a sustainable solution to this problem, and one which will allow us to expand our Skills Centre course offering to further address the skills shortage issue in the energy industry.

“The Snoozebox modules are not dissimilar to oil workers’ offshore accommodation. The proposal sees the facility built on land behind our main building, and in terms of appearance the building will look like many other buildings in this environment. The new accommodation will allow Bilfinger to better run and organise minibus pick-ups to the station and airport for larger groups of trainees.”

“A similar set up has been successfully utilised by a training provider in Newcastle, who built a facility onsite to accommodate delegates, so we see no reason as to why the Snoozebox modular accommodation would not be the perfect solution for visitors undergoing training with the business.”

“WE BELIEVE THIS IS AN EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITY TO SUPPORT THE ADVANCEMENT OF TRAINING FOR THE ENERGY INDUSTRY IN THE NORTH-EAST OF SCOTLAND.
Lorcán Ó Murchú, Chief Executive of Snoozebox commented: “We believe this is an excellent opportunity to support the advancement of training for the energy industry in the North-East of Scotland.

“The energy training sector obviously has a demand for temporary, but long-term, affordable accommodation, and Snoozebox modules present a totally self-contained solution.“

Another aspect I had not realised is that 65% of the share capital is tightly held between 9 major investors (including Soros)

On that basis the free float is only 63m shares when you take away the 7m Director holdings.

No wonder the stock moves quickly

I stand by my 3 month price target of 20p, giving a market cap of £40m, with net assets stated as £24m that means the trading business would only be valued at £16m

At the moment the trading business is valued at NIL !!

Are people finally waking up to the potential here. It promises to be a bumper month for news and I think the new Aberdeen hotel will turn a few heads when it is announced, probably at the time of the V2 launch.

Buys going through on ISDX as well this morning.

Still selling below 12p asset backing.

Directors recently put in £300,000 at 10p per share

Launch of next generation hotel pods this month with associated media coverage

Improving financials

Strong cash position, £8m in late June, £15m debt facility (unused)

The last run up to 17p was very fast, could repeat IMO.

lefrene - We know that the next generation hotel is launched this month, planning approval will probably be forthcoming in Aberdeen, the Eden Project/YHA Hostel is up and running, plus whatever other projects the company is working on.

The share price should be well past 10.00p by the end of the month, so I think quite a few of the warrant holders will exercise them, which will give the company even more financial headroom and should put to bed any notion that further funds will be required at this low price.

Yes, someone is definitely accumulating. Quite a few sold yesterday in relation to the buys and the MM's were quite happy to take them.

Looking at the planning application for the temporary hotel in Aberdeen - 5 years, it looks like it will go before the Planning Committee in the next couple of weeks.

You can sell 250k online. Bear in mind what has been sold this morning and you
are looking at a 7 figure buyer ie 1 million + shares.

There is also 150k available at 9.15p probably because of the 50k sales so super liquid zzz atm
