Boris Johnson mentioned a move to renewables very quickly in order to mitigate gas shortages. Wind came at the forefront.

WAR IN UKRAINE
Relaxing rules on wind farms could ease gas crisis

Wednesday March 09 2022, 12.01am, The Times

Ministers are examining plans to relax restrictions on new onshore wind farms as part of proposals to expand renewable energy projects in the face of spiralling gas prices.

The government imposed a de facto moratorium on new onshore wind farms in England in 2015, imposing draconian planning restrictions and cutting onshore off from government investment in renewables.

I recall seeing some figures from (??) years back that a Severn Barrage scheme would take about 10 years to pay back the energy used in its creation.

So if it can supply 7% of the UK's needs, it would require 70% of a year's usage to build.... which I think is about 1/3 of a year's total fossil fuel usage).

Wheeze - I agree with you. Our failure to invest in tidal energy goes back decades. The screamingly obvious passes our politicians by. They are short sight sighted and most lack basic common sense. Even in this crisis, I have severe doubts our government can rise to the challenge of investing in our future and create thousands of jobs at the same time. Don't worry about Slimbridge - the bird life will simply take off and head to Worcester. Bright creatures birds - adaptable with lots of common sense!!!

I haven't posted here for a while despite having accumulated a number of these over the years. Currently holding with an average of around 7p but have bought at much higher levels in the past. Current market cap is 9 million which woefully undervalues the company, the existing turbines, the knowledge base and the technology. The share price has been hit largely because of Guptas problems and the fact that he is a large shareholder.I cannot see how the U.K. government can afford to not invest in tidal energy. If we had done so effectively ten years ago, we may not be facing an energy crisis of current proportions with record gas prices.I hope to see a RNS soon to inform the market that the turbines are back in the water.

Interesting find DeanHarris1989. It would be good news if they are at last able to get the broken turbines back in the water. I had wondered if they were holding this back due to lack of funds so it would be a good omen if they are still able to run their normal operations.

Severn tidal will produce 7% of uk electricity usage , now that is massive and its carbon free, win win win .

Uskmouth now has to be a certain bet on proceeding , if they still say no then it proves we have some serious idiots running the Welsh nation.

I will bet the decision makers in Wales will still be thinking uskmouth is not green enough and they'd rather see the company go bust and lose jobs than approve it. We'll see if the government forces their hand. Always remember these people are totally disconnected from the real world, and will just up their expenses to cope with the increased cost of living.

You do wonder if the decision makers in Wales might be looking at Uskmouth in a slightly different light now. We are seeing incinerators approved all over the place in England so its very much a policy choice of the Welsh government to block this development.

More importantly, the CfD process for tidal is now well underway and it is hopefully just a matter of weeks now. Share price still an absolute bargain in my view. I had doubts about whether they had cash to make it to the spring but with each passing week the odds of them limping through and winning a contract for Meygen get stronger. With a CfD in the bag the share price should correct and the company will be able to access capital markets again or sell off a stake of equity in Meygen at a much better valuation. A long road ahead still but I can see a route to clawing back my losses on this one.

Looks like HMRC have pulled out of bring down Gupta's Liberty steel , good news for all employed and chance for Gupta to finance all other ventures , now Boris needs to confirm support for tidal energy by a factor of 100 Bingo !

@farragoshake - Expecting stormy waters (fund raise or M&A as needs large investor or gov. support to develop new product) and waiting for news on CfD and Uskmouth, this is currently small % of portfolio.
