You're definitely having a good run. I avoided the above companies as the P/E's were in the high 20's and now are 30 or above. Too high for me. My average P/E for the portfolio is 11.7 and that includes utilities (energy + water) which I hope will limit downside when markets do fall. One of the reasons I went for Shire was the low P/E of just 10 which for a big pharmaceutical company is very low. M&A prospect also.

Evening justice , yep DOM was outstanding . BRBY, SSPG and ABF not too shabby either

+1.2% for the week , now if only SHP would get a shift on , pretty well unchanged on the week... waiting for the Q3 numbers on the 27th

philanderer bet you had a good week with Dominos doing so well? Utilities including water continue to get hammered - Shire going nowhere either means -0.1% for the portfolio vs +0.2% FTSE350.

There are other more significant factors at play here than currency rates although the share price does seem to get disproportionately hammered when GBP strengthens yet remains flat when it weakens. GBP:USD was as high as 1.36 in the past month then was back at 1.30 just a few days ago. Shire's SP? Pretty much flat.

Q3 update 27th October

rate rise will cause in increase in value of sterling. overseas incomes then reduce

I don't understand why a rate rise would impact SHP - please explain the rationale.

Diplomatic response to my attack. You're clearly a man of character.

Want something to happen here, but fear rate rises won't help in the short term.

Continuation of recent good news flow at month end might help matters.

Phil, you don't have to post if you have nothing to say, we wont hold it against you ;)

I suggest if your portfolio is up or down less than 0.3% in either direction, we'll assume it was steady if you don't post, how's that?

I don't get people who think this stock is manipulated lower and still hold it. If that's what you believe, why not sell it and find one that you believe isn't?

It's like the gold and silver boards, people endlessly bleating about price manipulation. It's like, fine, then why not sell?

Question: What forces are thought to be at play to manipulate the share price and keep it under such a cloud? Of course, I'd like this stock to motor as much as anyone!

Bad week for the portfolio
Up +0.4% only vs FTSE all share +1.9%

Mainly due to Centrica's nightmare week + Tory/Theresa May's meddling.
Royal Mail's strikers did not help either. Spire continues to be tampered with.
Nearly bought Coats at 55p - didn't as the P/E was high (even more so now >20), poor balance sheet and vulnerable to a strengthening £. The market is truly mad.

Top week for the portfolio + 2.4%

FTSE100 +2.0%
FTSE 250 +1.5%

COA +13% and ECM +10% the best ones for me , even SHP +84p ;-)

All the brokers are way, way off at the moment.
Funny how the market accepts shoddy reduced target prices in an instant but ignores higher target prices.
Shire is a classic example.

It truly is a shorters' market.

This time last year Shire was 5323p (!!)
